There is a confluence of several primary transitions occurring in long-term planetary cycles in 2016 that impel us to make tremendous changes throughout the remainder of this decade, in society's ideologies, in sociopolitical structures, and in our personal lives.
In this commentary we explore the sociopolitical and personal ramifications of the Saturn-Neptune square of 2015-2016, the Saturn-Neptune 36.4-year synodic cycle that began in 1989, along with the coinciding Saturn-Uranus 45-year cycle that began in 1988, the Jupiter-Neptune opposition and the Jupiter-Neptune synodic cycle, the Jupiter-Saturn square and their cycle, which lead into the climatic Jupiter-Saturn-Pluto conjunctions and their compounded synods with Ceres and Pallas occurring in 2020 (all square Eris), and finally, the Neptune-Orcus 498-year synodic cycle, which began in 1764, the climatic mid-point of this cycle occurring now, and the 3:2 Neptune-Orcus-Pluto orbital resonance, lifting veils to soul's power and purpose.
These events also occur along with the extremely significant and unprecedented Uranus-Eris conjunction opposite Haumea of 2016-2017.
About Synodic Cycles
Synodic cycles are created when two (or more) planets align in their orbits around the Sun. The synodic cycle theme, defined by the planets involved and the star alignments at the time, will unfold until the two planets align again, marking the completion of the synodic cycle and the beginning of the next one.
There are many synodic cycles with unique astrological themes occurring simultaneously creating a harmonic symphony of creative unfoldment in consciousness. Synodic cycles can be thought of as longer-term underlying currents, much like the backdrop chorus of a symphony, providing the underlying astrological context guiding our evolution.
Saturn and Neptune make their heliocentric (synodic) square on January 29, 2016, which is the actual 270° square in the current Saturn-Neptune 36.4-year synodic cycle that began on July 18, 1989. This was a compounded synod with Vesta occurring amongst the stars of the Zen Archer, Sagittarius. This square expresses through three Saturn-Neptune geocentric squares. The first occurs on November 26, 2015. They make their second square on June 18, 2016, when both are retrograde. They make their third and final square on September 10, 2016 (all shown in the timeline above).

Immediately preceding the 1989 Saturn-Neptune synod was the Saturn-Uranus synod, which occurred on June 9, 1988, also in Sagittarius, initiating the Saturn-Uranus 45-year synodic cycle. The two synods were just several degrees apart, and the geocentric conjunctions of Saturn and Uranus led directly into those of Saturn and Neptune, occurring in two adjacent Saturn retrogrades (shown in this video and in the graphic ephemeris below). Thus, the Saturn-Neptune synod occurred in and was influenced by the initial momentum of the Saturn-Uranus energetic.
Before exploring the 2015-2016 square, let us first explore the themes of these two synodic cycles and their relationship to gain context for the Saturn-Neptune square occurring now. Both of these synods and their respective cycles contribute significantly to world events at the time and to the formation of sociopolitical views, ideological structures and social-based technologies as we experience them today.
Earth also makes annual synods with each planet, which occur in the midst of each planet's
retrograde, thus engaging the energetics of the longer-term cycles in our Earthian experience.
The Saturn-Uranus 45-year cycle is one about introducing new progressive thought, technological innovation, and radical change into society's status quo and into society's established structures. Saturn's force, in turn, impels us to ground these new thoughts and innovations into applicable and concretized form. The start of this cycle (the Saturn-Uranus synod) expressed through three geocentric conjunctions, which occurred on February 13, 1988, June 26, 1988, and October 18, 1988. This first conjunction was triggered by Mars (shown in the video above), impelling assertive creative initiative in leadership for the Saturn-Uranus theme.
Saturn is of structure, form and time. Saturn's force tends to solidify and concretize, to halt that which is moving. Saturn is slow and methodical. It imparts a need to be responsible, accountable, dependable and stable. Saturn also forces us to confront our fears and address our karmic issues.
Saturn, in its clear and evolved expression, impels us to create a solid foundation and stability in our lives. It brings the capacity for concentration and moderation and the ability to apply past principles and knowledge constructively. Saturn instills confidence in one's knowledge; and honors family and soul heritage.
Saturn in its diminished expression can be controlling, wanting to own others and dictate behavior for them. It can be oppressive, righteous and jealous; fearful of casual intimacy, touching and embracing, which instead must be controlled. It can produce an inability to be self-responsible and own up to life experience as being one's own creation; thus resulting in victim consciousness where we blame life or others for our life experience. It can express a denial or avoidance of genetic and family heritage. It can produce an inability to ground, concretize and structure life; or produce difficulty with physical things, as well as well as with structure, organizations, legalities, and bureaucracies.
Uranus impels us to break from the conformity of the past. Uranus is radical, spontaneous, and electrical. It supports the expression of our uniqueness and originality.
Uranus, in its clear and evolved expression, brings the ability to spontaneously change and to create new frontiers in experience and consciousness. It is the true pioneer, uninhibited by convention and establishment (Saturn). Uranus inspires the expression of our unique individuality in radical confidence. Uranus instills a future-orientation and humanitarian focus; and embodies quickness and alertness of consciousness often producing a lightning-like creative mind when prominently aspected. Uranus provides an ability to work with higher orders and principlesproviding a higher-mind prowess for telepathy and all super-consciousness functions and mechanisms. Uranus instills an appreciation for excellence and perfection. It is the applier of the higher sciences and inspires new discoveries in technology and consciousness.
Uranus in its diminished expression can manifest as fear to change or to be spontaneous. It can express as judgment of other's uniqueness and gifts, or of one's own eccentricities and uniqueness; which covers a fear of being accepted, or rejected and persecuted, thus leaving one to seek sameness as a means for gaining acceptance. An acute or hyper-Uranian energy can express as instability, erraticism and rebelliousness.
The Saturn-Uranus synod occurs in early Sagittarius, conjoining the Gate of God.
Sagittarius. stargate to Galactic Center, is commonly referred to as the Sagittarian Centaur, Zen Archer, or the First Horseman whose arrow points toward Galactic Center, the heart of our Galaxy, from which expresses the cosmic intelligent force that forms and suspends our entire Galaxy. Sagittarius is the Galactic City of Light responsible for the higher spiritual education about our galactic heritage and the evolution of souls.
Sagittarius is the spiritual warrior. On a personal level, the stars of Sagittarius generally inspire demonstrable action to live a deeper inner truth, or a more universal truth, and to express that truth through an undaunted Zen focus to hit the target of our highest ideals and dreams, ultimately to achieve a greater unified awareness. The Zen Archer is focused upon long-term goals, that is, the goals of durative soul rather than short-term trivial or transitory pursuits. Sagittarius is a seeker, always on a quest for knowledge that transcends or that lays beyond the transient and superficial world of human affairs. The Sagittarian Archer is generally self-taught, of spiritual wisdom amalgamated over time through raw experience. Sagittarius is the sanguine inspirationalist, and is of lofty vision and higher ideals.
Sagittarius is both a galactic constellation and an ecliptical constellation because it lies upon the galactic equator and the ecliptic. Sagittarius oversees the "Gate of God" (5° sidereal Sag)—the primary reference point for the cycle of Earth's ~25,000-year Precessional Cross, created by the intersection of the plane of our galaxy and the plane of our solar system. Earth's Precessional Cycle and the cycle of the Precessional Cross, manifesting in the ecliptic ring, governs the evolutionary cycle of the soul collective incarnate on Earth.
Prominent alignments with the Gate of God (the fixed axis of Earth's precessional cross) can herald events that can significantly effect humanity's evolutionary course, and this did occur during the Saturn-Uranus synthesis.

The first permanent intercontinental Internet link was made between the United States (NSFNET) and Europe (Nordunet) as well as the first Internet-based chat protocol, Internet Relay Chat." Quote from wikipedia. The World Wide Web (WWW) was invented by English scientist Tim Berners-Lee (born June 8, 1955) the following year at CERN in Switzerland. He also wrote the first web browser in 1990.
The Web, of course, quickly evolved to become a new global infrastructure for communication and interaction, and a vessel for global social networking and event marketing—the latter articulating the combined impetus of both the Saturn-Uranus and Saturn Neptune cycles of 1988-1989, and their unfoldment over the years ahead.
Innovations in technology are not the only areas where the Saturn-Uranus energetic can and did express, but the above is a very good example and one quite prominent. You can easily find a plethora of information on the web about the emergence of the WWW and those involved.
The Saturn-Neptune synod of July 18, 1989 expressed though the geocentric conjunctions occurring on March 3, 1989, June 24, 1989 when both planets were retrograde, and with the final conjunction occurring on November 13, 1989, Vesta joined in at the time with its retrograde embracing the Saturn-Neptune conjunction as well as Uranus (also shown in the video above).
The Gas Giant Neptune is of inspiration, ideals, dreams and visions; as well as inspiring a new visionary-based, universal consciousness. Neptune imparts a dissolving force. Neptune's atmosphere shifts and changes continuously, looking quite different in just a few days time. This is one of the astrophysical characteristics of Neptune that reveals why Neptune tends to dissolve things into universality; it is amorphous, swirling and shifting, and thus also lends itself to the exploration of creative ideas and alternative realms of perception; and also to merge in consciousness with others and with one's surroundings. Neptune dissolves boundaries and thus enables one to see imagery beyond the semantics of words and language. Neptune inspires an artful expression of abstract, mystical and spiritual imaginings. Neptune elevates and spiritualizes that which it aligns with, and molds our ideologies.
Neptune can however leave one lost in a dream world, unable to see if ideas and visions have any real substance or viability, which can leave one living in illusion, self-deception, confusion, or behind a veil or mask. Thus the issue of discernment arises as well. In its lesser expression, Neptune can leave one impressionable, easily lost in followings, the paranormal or phenomenology. It can express as martyrdom or savior complexes; and as deceptive mysterious behavior as a way of hiding. Avoidance and seeking escape is common, especially through addictions, such as drug abuse.
Vesta was discovered on 29 March 1807 by the German physician Heinrich Wilhelm Matthaus Olbers (1758-1840), He named the asteroid for the Roman goddess of virtue at the suggestion of Carl Friedrich Gauss. Vesta was near the Super Galactic Center, the spiritual mother center of the Heavens, in sidereal Virgo—a placement quite fitting to Vesta's relationship to the Virgin principle.
In mythical language, Vesta is the revered goddess of the Vestal Virgins, the daughter of Rhea and Saturn, the eldest sister of Jupiter, and is keeper of the sacred fire on Mt. Olympusmeaning keeper of the eternal flame (truth) of the soul within self. Fire, the element of Vesta, is purifying for the soulserving to enlighten and enliven. Vesta and the Vestal Virgins were highly valued and trusted for speaking the truth. They kept and protected all important documents and records. Vesta is also the Roman goddess of the hearth, home and family.
Vesta is the asteroid of focus, dedication and commitment; of physical, emotional, and mental clarity; and of self-respect. Vesta brings a capacity to be pure within self at all levels for the expression of one's highest potential and true Essence. Vesta is of strength, purity, and perfection—of total dedication to purpose. Vesta brings attention to that which is of true importance to us and will ignite and burn away that which is not so we can become clear. Vesta is keeper of the sacred flame within self. Vesta asks us to examine our inner values, our passion in life, to become clear on it, and to use our creativity to keep that fire alive. In general, a Saturn-Neptune cycle is about the structuring of our ideologies into concretized form, whether those structures are beliefs that uphold and defend those ideologies, or physical constructs we build in our lives. It is also about the structuring of, as well as constrictions about, society's ideologies and sociopolitical orders. When Saturn and Neptune conjoin and initiate a new synodic cycle, as occurred in 1989, two primary things occur. Neptune wants to dissolve Saturn's previous constructs and segregations into universality, and Saturn wants to solidify the visions and ideals inspired by Neptune into societal structure, ideals which had been gestating from the previous cycle, in essence wanting to birth a new sociopolitical order as the cycle begins. This energetic can also accentuate resistance from long-established sociopolitical structures to any new ideologies trying to emerge.
Keep in mind that Neptune's more visionary and purer spiritual resonances are embodied only by more mature and older souls, self-aware individuals. For the masses however this generally is not the case, as many people experience Neptune's lesser expression, being impressionable, lost in following others, the glitter and glamour, and phenomenology of life. Thus, a Saturn-Neptune synthesis can still result in the formation of new religious or political dogmas, their rules and regulations, and their idealistic followings. Nonetheless, the sequence of Saturn-Neptune cycles impel a progression in society's values and ideologies, albeit a slow progression in Saturn's slow and methodical tempo, and a progression tempered by the overall level of true spiritual awareness of the masses.
Saturn's North Pole Hexagon and Aurora
A hexagram is created by two interlocking triangles, often associated with the unified masculine and feminine or the spiritual and physical. Its 3D counterpart is composed of two interlocking tetrahedrons, a stellated tetrahedron. This is one of the most stable geometries. Hex means to make fixed, and that is what Saturn does.

Neptune is also of mysticism, secrets and illusions, veils and cloaks, what is hidden, thus with Saturn we have the manifestation and cycles of secret societies, religious orders, their doctrines, traditions, rituals and their clandestine agendas. Saturn-Neptune cycles also produce the influencing agents of these cloaked orders and their agendas, such as political institutions, corporations, law and courts, and orthodox science. One side of the Saturn-Neptune coin is making our dreams and ideals real. On the other, is making appear real what is not.
In the sociopolitical arena, Saturn-Neptune cycles are about the ebb and flow of more conservative, controlling and authoritarian ideals, although this specific cycle was also influenced by the Saturn-Uranus synthesis as well, adding a rebellious progressive element to create change in conservative currents and authoritarian political orders. This is in contrast to a Jupiter-Neptune cycle, which is more expansive, liberal and socially oriented, which we will explore below.
The July 18, 1989 Saturn-Neptune synod occurred in mid-Sagittarius, slightly further from the Saturn-Uranus synod. Conjoining stars include Nunki and Phi Sagittarius; Beta, Delta and Epsilon of Scutum; and south of Sag are the stars of Corona Australis.
Nunki, Sigma Sag, (and Phi of Sagittarius at the Archer's hand), marks the fletching of the Zen Archer's arrow. The fletching of an arrow is what causes it to spin and have stability in flight, making it possible for the arrow to accurately move through space to hit its target. Nunki teaches us to steer our intent with undaunted focus, which is the guiding and stabilizing force used to achieve our goals. Nunki imparts eloquent fluidity of form in movement and a sense of being in the flow, and impels the expression of one's full potential.

Several star qualities amalgamate around the Zen Archer's hand holding the taunt arrow: Nunki (Sigma), Phi, Ascella (Zeta), Tau, Nu, and Xi of Sagittarius. This is the warrior's core energy in its full potential, drawn and ready to release, provoking action that is life supportivehence Sag is the spiritual warrior. This location marks the central core essence of the Archer, a point of equipoise and balance. It impels us to align all of the light fibers of our being into a coherent whole and focus that totality in controlled action.
Corona Australis, considered an auspicious constellation, had been in existence since time immemorial. It is associated with the "Laurel Crown," a sign of victory, as worn by the Greek god Apolloand hence the name Laureate. Corona Australis embodies the treasure of the Zen Archer and the wisdom of alchemyof using natural forces to manifest a higher order or achieve a higher purpose, ideal or goal. This is an alchemical process, one initiated by evocation.
This Sagittarian influence upon the Saturn-Neptune synod brought inspiration to elevate our ideologies and the forms of their expression to align with a greater truth, one supporting greater personal freedom and impelling us to seek a more unified awareness. It also inspires us to become more allowing. The Sagittarian energetic impels us to seek freedom from society's rules and regulations, to become one's own master, which is somewhat paradoxical to the nature of Saturn's stronghold in its attempt to control and restrict. Thus we experience an inner restrictive tension to break free from our own beliefs and inherited or assumed ideologies.
Vesta's influence with Saturn imparts a motive toward discipline, organization, and dedication. Vesta's influence with Neptune imparts an ability to focus our imaginings, dreams and visions. All together this imparts a strong impetus to maintain clarity and focus of vision to make that vision manifest, which is a definite undercurrent popular in ideological thought of today, as are the principles articulated by the conjoining stars (Nunki, etc.). The Vesta-Neptune cycle was 3.7 years in duration, continuing through March of 1993. The Vesta-Saturn cycle was 4 years in duration, continuing through July of 1993—adding her influence throughout the first few years of the Saturn-Neptune cycle.
The historical, innovative and radical actions of Mikhail Gorbachev provide a prominent example of the 1988 Saturn-Uranus and 1989 Saturn-Neptune synthesis and the new Saturn-Neptune cycle then emerging. Mikhail Gorbachev was the general secretary of the Soviet Union's Communist Party from 1985 to 1991 and president of the Soviet Union in 1990–91. He catalyzed a series of events in 1989 and 1990 to transform the political structure of Europe. His efforts to democratize and decentralize his country's political system led to the dissolution of Communism and the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991. He was awarded the Otto Hahn Peace Medal in 1989 and the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990 for his progressive achievements in international relations and ending the Soviet Union's domination of eastern Europe.

The Saturn-Uranus and Saturn-Neptune conjunctions (1988-1989) led directly into Mikhail Gorbachev's Saturn Return, occurring in 1990-early 1991.
Also articulating the Saturn-Uranus-Neptune synthesis was the uprise of nearly one million pro-democracy Chinese, mostly students, in Tiananmen Square Beijing in May of 1989, in protest against Chinese Communist Party leaders, along with the brutal and deadly attack upon them by Chinese government forces on June 4, 1989. This was one of many pro-democracy demonstrations in several cities across China (Tiananmen 1989 protests overview). The Chinese censoring of the Internet also began in 1989, known as The Great Firewall of China.
Mars conjoined Chiron in opposition to Uranus in May 1989. The second geocentric opposition of Saturn and Neptune (both retrograde and sextile retrograde Pluto) occurred in June 1989.
These events, the technological innovations and revolutionary uprisings impelled by the new Saturn-Uranus cycle and those sociopolitical impelled by the new Saturn-Neptune cycle, catalyzed a primary shift in our personal lives and in the geopolitical infrastructures in our world. As a result, boundaries dissolved once isolating autonomous interaction amongst people and governance in business and politics, making possible communication by individuals and cultures as a unified global collective, as well as the emergence of multinational interactions in business and politics. This Saturn-Uranus-Neptune synthesis articulated a radical and progressive energetic shift toward a unified global consciousness, making it apparent that we as individuals and as nations are not separate and independent, but are instead inter-dependent, despite the fighting and screaming of those who resisted and still resist a unified and cooperative global consciousness, who obstinately adhere to their antiquated religious-political ideological dogmas of supremacy.
Here is a brief summation of other world-changing sociopolitical events occurring in 1989, at the time of the Saturn-Neptune conjunctions and the start of the new Saturn-Neptune 36.4 year synodic cycle. Keep in mind as well that the influence of the Saturn-Uranus conjunctions and synod occurring the year before added a progressive, revolutionary, unexpected element into a conservative, restrictive and authoritarian sociopolitical energetic:
TIME's Annual Journey: 1989. Shifting On Its Pivot. The Year That Changed The World
1989 was also the year when the devastating California Loma Prieta earthquake occurred (on Oct 17), and when the Berlin Wall was opened (November 9), the details of which I mention in my Introduction to Astronomical Earthgrid Spacetime Mapping. These two events occurred leading into the crescendo of the third geocentric conjunction, when Saturn and Neptune maintained a very tight orb of less than 1°, opposite Jupiter. A (critical) Mercury T-Square to Saturn-Neptune opposite Jupiter triggered the quake. Venus (a harmonious trigger) was approaching Saturn-Neptune's exact and final conjunction from Nov 9 through Nov 14 corresponding with the opening of the Berlin Wall on November 9. Note the themes of these events—dissolving what was structured. Literally in the case of the earthquake, the extensive devastation was largely due to liquefaction more so than its magnitude (Mag 6.9 / 7.1 surface wave). Geological liquefaction refers to the earth (ground) becoming fluid, which is fitting to the Neptune (watery and amorphous) and Saturn (solid) resonances, opposite mobilizing Jupiter.
The opening of the Berlin wall was initiated by the people first, not the government, exemplifying the new emerging ideologies of the people dissolving the limiting bounds that separated them in the past, but was occurring simultaneously with the new ideologies introduced into demonstrable form and existing sociopolitical structure by Mikhail Gorbachev, both of which led into the reunification of Germany.
Note to astrologers and researchers: The 1988 Saturn-Uranus and the 1989 Saturn-Neptune synods, and their cycles, are the last in the Uranus-Neptune 172-year cycle that began on September 28, 1821 (in earlier sidereal Sagittarius, on the Zen Archer's bow), and continued to the Uranus-Neptune synod of April 20, 1993 (under the auspices of Lyra and Aquila, in late sidereal Sag). (See 1800-2400 timeline below.)
The next Saturn-Neptune and Saturn-Uranus synods (2025 / 2032) and their cycles are the first to occur in the new Uranus-Neptune cycle that began in 1993 (mobilized and expanded upon by Jupiter in late 1996-early 1997).1 Also note that up until the Uranus-Neptune synod, the Saturn-Uranus synods preceded the Saturn-Neptune synods. Now the Saturn-Neptune synods will precede the Saturn-Uranus synods (shown in the timeline below).2 The upcoming Saturn-Neptune synod of December 11, 2025 occurs just as Uranus makes its first sextile from Neptune (60° into the Uranus-Neptune cycle occurring in 2025-26). The Saturn-Uranus synod follows on July 20, 2032, which is the completion of the current 45-year Saturn-Uranus cycle, presented above.
When exploring historical sociopolitical, international-economic and trade related events, and revolutionary responses occurring in the 1990s, it is important to also consider the new Uranus-Neptune cycle that began in 1993. In addition, we are currently at the first novile (40°) in this cycle (2015-2016), which is also worthy to consider regarding the transitions occurring in the other cycles at this time (Saturn-Neptune square, Jupiter-Neptune opp, Jupiter-Saturn square, etc.). Noviles, a ninth harmonic, excites initiatory challenges to overcome restrictions, The first novile in a cycle marks a time to complete, leave behind or sluff off what was covering the sprouting of the new theme emerging, in this case through radical responses and progressive thinking, as well as technological innovations (Uranus) to move away from illusions obscuring a new Uranian-based ideology (the Uranus-Neptune cycle emerging in 1993).
The 1988-1989 Saturn-Uranus and Saturn-Neptune synods were very close (~a year apart) because they occurred near the closing of the previous Uranus-Neptune cycle (1993). The close coincidence of these two cycles is a very rare event. The last time this occurred was in 13073, when the Saturn-Uranus, Saturn-Neptune and Uranus-Neptune synods were even closer, with all three occurring within several months.
Also to note and contributing to the dynamic at the time, Jupiter made geocentric oppositions to Saturn, Uranus and Neptune from September 1989 through July 1990. The synodic oppositions: Jupiter opp Uranus on December 23, 1989, Jupiter opp Neptune on March 17, 1990, and Jupiter opp Saturn on July 6, 1990. These are the climactic midpoints in Jupiter's cycles with each of these planets.

1) The Lyrian-Aquila (late Sag) Uranus-Neptune cycle engaging in 1993 produced the new Uranus-Neptune generation with radically new, intelligent, lofty and other worldly ideals. Jupiter's activation of Uranus-Neptune occurring in late 1996-early 1997 produced a dynamic expansion and mobilization of this energetic, and so too of those birthing then. A good exemplar of this energetic is singer-song writer and recording artist Ella Yelich-O'Connor (Lorde), born Nov 7, 1996.
2) The phase shift in the order of the Saturn-Uranus and Saturn-Neptune synods surrounding the Uranus-Neptune synod is due to the faster movement of Uranus over Neptune; i.e., as Uranus approaches Neptune, faster moving planets, like Saturn make their synods with Uranus first, then Neptune. As Uranus passes Neptune, faster moving planets make their synods with Neptune first, then Uranus.
Uranus-Neptune cycles are also a part of the Uranus-Neptune-Pluto cycles. The Uranus-Neptune synods, which create ~172 year cycles, nest within the longer ~493-year Neptune-Pluto cycle. The Uranus-Neptune, Neptune-Pluto and Uranus-Pluto synods (and their cycles) nest within a much longer, almost a 4000-year cycle, created by the triple conjunctions of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, the last to occur around 574 BCE (6th century BCE, peak of the "Axial Age") and the next about 3370 CE. These triple conjunctions create massive turning points for civilization and the evolution of consciousness on Earth. Eight Neptune-Pluto synods nest within this greater cycle. Cycles created by very slow moving planets are the most impactive and their transitional effects extend many years around the actual synods.
3) 1307 CE (in particular, Friday, October 13 and November 22, 1307) was when the religious-political powers, King Philip IV and Pope Clement of France, ordered the arrest of the Knights Templar (Friday, October 13), charging them with heresies and extracting torture-induced confessions. Under pressure from King Philip to influence kings across all of Europe to do the same, Pope Clement issued the Pastoralis Praeeminentiae on November 22, 1307 instructing all Christian monarchs throughout Europe to arrest all Templars and seize their assets. This occurred during the Saturn-Uranus-Neptune conjunctions and within days of their compounded synods—occurring in the Karmic Clutches of the Scorpion. In addition, the Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions and their synod, and Jupiter's conjunction with Uranus and Neptune, and their synods (engaging several new synodic cycles), occurred very close (conjunctions shown in the adjacent video). This marked a major turning in social-religious politics. This led to many Templars being burned at the stake in Paris, and subsequently the official dissolution of the Order of the Knights Templar at the Council of Vienne in 1312. 1312 CE is when Uranus made its 270° square to Pluto (the time of dissolution and change in that cycle) and when Jupiter made its opposition to Uranus (the climatic midpoint of the Jupiter-Uranus cycle that began in 1306), creating a Uranus-Pluto-Jupiter T-Square.
The Jupiter conjunctions with Saturn, Uranus and Neptune and the synodic cycle engaging with Jupiter and those planets occurring in late-1305 into 1306 is when this all began with Clement's failed attempt of summoning Templar Grand Master Jacques de Molay and the Hospitaller Grand Master Fulk de Villaret demanding they account for the charges of heresy by King Philip and reveal their vast fortunes. This quickly escalated into the climatic scenario during the Saturn-Uranus-Neptune synthesis in 1307. Notice the Saturn-Uranus-Neptune theme here: an abrupt and radical dissolution of a major part of the European infrastructure. The Templars, along with their extensive sociopolitical power, did not disappear however, but went underground.
This is a small part of a much larger story, one that also nests within larger planetary cycles, but somewhat digressive other than to mention in brief, but worth presenting somewhat to show how these longer cycles created by Uranus, Neptune and Pluto work, and how the Jupiter and Saturn cycles modulate these longer cycles. This chapter in world history begins with the Crusades, starting with the First Crusade of 1096, which occurred just a few years into the beginning of the 1090 Uranus-Pluto cycle, which nests in the longer 493-year Neptune-Pluto cycle (and its theme, presented below). The Knights Templar were a response to and product of the Crusades, and were a part of this Uranus-Pluto cycle. The Neptune-Pluto synthesis imparts massive transformation within the human psyche, in our perception of and ideals about reality. It impels a dissolution of ideologies and their expression through sociopolitical power into the underworld only to re-emerge with new ideologies precipitating into new expressions of exerting power. Initiating one of the upper cycles in the hierarchy of cycles, this synthesis is like a big erasure of the previous cycle that allows a spiraling into the next evolutionary octave. As shown in the timeline below, the 1090 Uranus-Pluto cycle started just after the first quarter (1077) of the Neptune-Pluto cycle, a time of initiating externalized action in this longer 493-year cycle. The Crusades began in 1096, just into the start of the 1090 Uranus-Pluto cycle, but also leading into the last square (1098) of the Uranus-Neptune cycle, a time of initiating change in that cycle. The First Crusade ended in 1099. The Knights Templar then emerged in response, at the first square in the Uranus-Pluto cycle, a time of initiating action in that cycle. They emerged with radically different esoteric-based ideologies due to the discovery of sacred scrolls from the Essenes of Egypt that they discovered during their archeological explorations under the Temple of Solomon (1118 to ~1128). The Templars became extremely prominent as the new Uranus-Neptune cycle emerged (1136). A Uranus-Neptune synthesis impels radically new progressive ideologies that break away from the conformation of the past. Their influence continued in prominence throughout the Uranus-Neptune cycle—also leading into the climax (opposition) of the Uranus-Pluto cycle, and throughout much of the following Uranus-Pluto cycle (which began in 1201). This continued until the time of the Templar's arrest, which occurred at the completion of the Uranus-Neptune cycle (1307). This completion was augmented by the Jupiter-Saturn synod coinciding and conjoining the Uranus-Neptune synod, a coincident completion of several cycles, ending the prominent expression of the Templars, and leading into their clandestine dispersal during the start of the new Uranus-Neptune cycle, and the last square (time for change) in the Uranus-Pluto cycle.
The stellar environment producing the theme of the Uranus-Pluto synod of 1090 CE and its cycle was defined by Altais of Draco; Alderamin and Zeta of King Cepheus; Alpheratz and the stars forming the bound outstretched arms of Andromeda; Revati (Zeta), Delta and Epsilon of Pisces; Theta and Tau of Cetus; and Nu of Fornax the Furnace. The theme here in this part of sidereal Pisces is very much about the control and dispensation of wealth from aristocracies and controlling patriarchs, the control, manipulation and suppression of people, and fear instilled by the technobureaucratic monster of collective human consciousness. The Uranus-Pluto cycle emerging amongst these stars was about radical severing from the conformation of the past and innovative breakthroughs in political power, the control of money, and the use of authoritative or authoritarian power to create radical change, wether to create greater freedom for or greater regulatory control and exploitation of the masses.
The stellar environment producing the Neptune-Pluto synod (June 905 CE) and the theme of the nearly 500-year cycle, in which this second Uranus-Pluto synod and cycle nests, was defined by the stars forming the Shield of Orion, Bellatrix and Rigel of Orion; Hassaleh of Auriga, the Charioteer, and Kursa of Eridanus. Orions, in general, are known for their architectural enterprising entrepreneurialism and these stars impart strength, success and honors in these pursuits. Prominent alignments with Rigel (and Bellatrix) bring the capacity to embody, direct and execute large, extravagant and grandiose projects, generally through commerce and business affairs. Conjoining Kursa, the beginning of Eridanus, the River of Life, is of new beginnings, new involvements, and new journeys. These stars impel tenacious perseverance that is required when staring new enterprises, to move from the wars and trials of the past to the freedom of the future. Kursa is also favorable for journeys involving enterprises beyond geopolitical boundaries, across water or in other parts of the world. The Shield, extending from Bellatrix, is of establishing protection and protective environments when starting new enterprises when they are in their formative stages, yet to become self-sustaining. The stars of the Shield impel endurance and victory in this pursuit. Bellatrix, the female Amazon warrior, inspires well thought out strategic planning. Classically, Bellatrix is fortuitous in administrative accomplishment, esp. in civil, political, and military office. All of these stars inspire strategic planning for innovative, enduring and persistent action to mobilize massive enterprising pursuits. This was the embracing context in which the 1090 CE Uranus-Pluto cycle expressed.
The Neptune-Pluto synods "precess" very slowing through the ecliptic. Our current 493-year Neptune-Pluto cycle began in January 1892 conjoining Aldebaran of Taurus (the Aldebaran-Antares axis), setting the underlying theme. The first sextile in this cycle occurred in 1952. The first Uranus-Pluto cycle in this Neptune-Pluto cycle began in 1966 (in which occurred our recent Uranus-Pluto square). The first Uranus-Neptune cycle began in 1993. The Uranus-Pluto opposition occurs in 2047. The first square in the current 493-year Neptune-Pluto cycle does not occur until 2063—and so it goes.
This Saturn-Neptune square marks entry into the last quarter of our current Saturn-Neptune synodic cycle, arousing an "inner impetus to create change," unlike the 90° square (December 2, 1998), our external stimulus for action.
The January 29, 2016 synodic square occurs with Neptune under the stars forming the Urn of Aquarius, the humanitarian waterbearer. Saturn conjoins Antares of Scorpio, and Zeta Ophiuchus and the stars forming the left leg of Ophiuchus.
Ophiuchus lies north of (above) and on the ecliptic, standing over the Scorpion. The body of the Scorpion swings south of the ecliptic, under the legs and feet of Ophiuchus. Only the head of the Scorpion crosses the ecliptic in the earlier part of the sign. Because Ophiuchus actually crosses the ecliptic, it is the thirteenth ecliptical constellation lying in the sidereal sign of Scorpio.
In this stellar image, Ophiuchus stands confidently holding the serpent (Serpentis) coiled around his body. The neck and head of the serpent reach toward the Northern Crown (Corona Borealis), which lies above the Chelae (claws) of the Scorpion (scales of Libra). The neck (Unukalhai) and head of the serpent embody the essence and wisdom of living true to soul, in one's true self-mastery, reaching for and a attaining a greater freedom of being (articulated by the Northern Crown), beyond the re-incarnational patterns of entrapment.
In Greek myth, Aesculapius (Aesclepius or Asculapius) the mediciner of the ship Argo, is also imaged as Ophiuchus, knowledgeable of advanced healing processes beyond the cycle of life and death. Aesculapius is the Greek version of Imhotep of Dynastic Egypt. Imhotep is considered to be the father of medicine and author of a medical treatise (the Edwin Smith papyrus - the oldest known surgical treatise on trauma) thought to have been written about 1700 BC, but also believed to be a compilation of documents a thousand years older. Ophiuchus also articulates the Christian resurrected Jesus (or Jeshu).
The giant star Zeta Ophiuchi is about six times hotter, eight times wider, 20 times more massive, and about 80,000 times as bright as our Sun. Stellar winds flowing out from this fast-moving star are making ripples in the dust as it approaches, creating a bow shock seen as glowing gossamer threads, which, for this star, are only seen in infrared light. This massive star is traveling at a snappy pace of about 54,000 mph (24 kilometers per second), fast enough to break the sound barrier in the surrounding interstellar material.... Ophiuchus is exemplar of one who has claimed self-mastery over the forces of life and death. This means one who has embodied the transmutational process and attained true illuminationvibrationally an ascended being free from the lower-order forces that perpetuate our past patterns of behavior and our experience in the reincarnational process of soul growth, the balancing of human experience in the polarity of dualityliterally the illumination of the double-banned lattice of the DNA (the urn of the soul) into the one radiant spiral of light. This is to live in a unified awareness beyond the entrapments inherent to a limited perception of a dualistic world.
The legs of Ophiuchus articulate emotional equilibrium, the stance from which he expresses his mastery. Zeta Ophiuchi, and the stars forming the left leg of Ophiuchus, and Kappa, his left shoulder, impart the need to take personal responsibility to create an enduring personal transformation. Zeta imparts a shamanistic warrior quality of one who has the ability to direct unseen forces to powerfully effect physical movement in the material world. This is not a mere mind over matter issue, but one that requires the neurological refinement only gained through inner work.
Marking the center of sidereal Scorpio is Antares, Alpha Scorpio, Heart of the Scorpion. Antares is one of the "Four Royal Architects" along with Aldebaran, Regulus, and Fomalhaut, each in their respective quadrants of the sky. Antares, the 15th brightest star, is about 700 times the size of our Sun, and is one of the largest stars. It is quite elongated with a polar diameter about 63% of its equatorial diameter, red in color, said to rival Mars in brightness when they are seen together.
In classical astrology, Antares is the star of war and weaponry, and with expounded meaning, to challenge the established opposing politics (an arena common to the Antares / Aldebaran axis) with tenacious adamancy. This is especially in regard to taking a stand against the established conditions of our personal lives and against the established order or authority directing our lives when those conditions or that authority are no longer in our best interest nor supporting our evolutionary freedom and fulfillment.
However, it is only the less aware who mistake this power point in the ecliptic to mean fight against or destroy what one still perceives as opposing forces outside of self. Antares expresses as immanence for those who have embraced their initiations and claimed their self-empowerment, who have graduated from playing the victim in life to a predetermined fate, and who have learned to take responsibility for their experience and their destiny. The Heart of the Scorpion teaches us to realize the inseparable nature of life, to reconcile the forces within and without, those of life and death, to know of the oneness and inseparable permeability of the Creation Forceas is exemplified by Ophiuchus standing over Antares, articulating the higher octave of sidereal Scorpio. In this awareness, Antares becomes a responsible protector of life and “takes a stand” for wholeness, and demonstrably and passionately lives it.
Saturn's placement impels deep inner work, not offering any easy way through, but only by confronting and transforming what keeps us from claiming our greater freedom and fulfilment in life and in the world. Here we realize that establishing patterns is easy but they are often hard to change, that it is often quite laborious to establish enduring change, change in our lives that can only manifest by effecting change at the core of self. Saturn's energetic is to solidify, to bring to stasis, yet to also be responsible to manifest that which we want in our lives, a foundation that is enduring and wholesome. As Saturn makes its passage through this transformative area of the zodiak (Oph/Scorpio) impelling us to initiate change in this 34-year cycle, we come to realize that relinquishing our ideologies of the past is exactly what we need to do. Here we find impetus to shed an old mold of self built around those ideologies, one which we may have come to identify ourselves with, but one that has now served its purpose. Saturn-Antares teaches us the power of limits, and here it tells us the power is within to change our own self imposed limits.
The Pelican Nebula Ionization Front
The Pelican Nebula is located a few degrees east of Deneb in the constellation Cygnus (north of , about 1,800 light-years distant from Earth. Neptune's has moved from mid-sidereal Sag, at the start of the Saturn-Neptune cycle (the synod), to mid-sidereal Aquarius, lying under the stars forming the Urn of Aquarius, which include Sadachbia (Gamma), Seat (Pi), Eta and Zeta Aquarius. Also influencing are Hydor and Skat of Aquarius; and Enif and Baham of Pegasus.
Neptune is just a few degrees to its hypsoma (its exalted location in the ecliptic, conjoining Hydor and Achernar) where its influence is at its maximum. Here Neptune imparts a dynamic and independent influence. Neptune traverses about 5° through the ecliptic during the three geocentric Saturn-Neptune squares.
Neptune's surface is not solid like Earth's. It is composed of a heavy layer of swirling clouds mainly composed of methane. Neptune's bright blue surface appearance continually changes due to underlying winds that blow up to about 700 miles per hour. This dense atmosphere morphs into liquid moving inward toward its icy silicate core. Neptune is made up mainly of hydrogen, helium, water and silicates. Neptune's geophysical nature is one of the reasons for Neptune's amorphous astrological nature. Neptune dissolves that which is fixed and segregated into universality—the quality of humanitarian Aquarius.
Aquarius is of vision and creativity, revolutionary and unpredictable, original and innovative. Aquarians support "the future well being of humanity." They are visionaries seeking to support humanitarian pursuits, especially in the arts and sciences, and an evolved societal structure, that which the nourishing flowing waters of the Waterbearer are intended.
Sadachbia, Gamma Aquarius, is the lucky star of hidden things and hiding places. Sadachbia imparts a giving impulse and is of serendipitous discovery, that is, being in the right place at the right time to discover, receive or bestow a physical gift of extreme value. It is a star of success in enterprises pursued.
Sadachbia, Seat (Pi), Zeta and Eta are of the Urn of the Waterbearer, from where the nourishing humanitarian waters flow. These stars produce both an expressive and receptive quality. They also conjoin Skat, Delta Aquarius. Skat is the "star of the foundation," marking the shinbone of the Waterbearer. Skat is of philanthropic foundations and organizations, vessels through which material and financial support can flow for future-oriented humanitarian focused projects and for the nourishment of an evolved human society flourishing in the arts and sciences.
Hydor, Lambda Aquarius, lies in and guides the stream of the flowing waters of the humanitarian Waterbearer. Hydor impels the appropriate distribution of resources. The name Hydor simply means water. Like the stars of the urn from which the waters flow, Sadalmelik, Sadachbia, Seat, Zeta and Eta (the Diamond of Aquarius), Hydor is a fortuitous star. This zodiacal location is also related to Varuna, goddess of the water's of life, who invites us to allow nature's way to weave its course.
Also influencing are Enif and Baham of Pegasus. Enif, Baham and Homam are a group of fortuitous stars that lie over the Aquarian Waterbearer, forming the head of Pegasus. All of these stars are of achievement and success. They impel us to lift and elevate, to make possible that which otherwise would not be without humanitarian or altruistic support. Enif, the nose of Pegasus, brings intuitiveness and sensitivity to humanitarian pursuits imparting a capacity to recognize what is of essence, value, and worthy of support. Enif asks us to follow our intuition to do that which is truly supportive to the greater well being of those around us.
Also conjoining Sadachbia are Beta and Gamma of Sculptor, lying in the southern heavens. Sculptor influences the entire second half of sidereal Aquarius and early Pisces. Sculptor, referring to a sculptor's studio, articulates the environments and resources that make possible the arts and sciences, those that support humanity, as well as sculpting a beautiful and bountiful human society, both physically and spiritually. Sculpting the arts and sciences is a principal facet of the Aquarian energetic.
As Neptune moves through the ecliptic, bathing in an ever-changing stellar environment, our ideals and visions shift and change as well. This does not occur just because of Neptune's movement alone, but because of the many cycles created with Neptune by the other planets, which articulate these energetics in our lives. The Saturn and Jupiter cycles with Neptune very much influence the ebb and flow of society's ideologies, the forms and structures they constrict into, as well as the expansion and mobilization of those ideals and forms. Within these cycles, the faster moving planets also make cycles with Neptune, contributing to the ever-changing influence of Neptune in our lives at a more personal level. For example, between this Saturn-Neptune square and the 2025 synod to follow, a period of about nine years, there are about nine Earth-Neptune cycles, about fourteen Venus-Neptune cycles, about six Mars-Neptune cycles, and a whole lot of Mercury-Neptune cycles. These faster cycles all modulate the last quarter of the Saturn-Neptune cycle, creating and grounding the qualities and themes of these cycles into the more personal facets of our lives in the context of the Saturn-Neptune cycle. This is of course true for how all planetary cycles work, and is why exploring aspects as phase changes in the context of the cycles that they are a part of can bring far more understanding to the aspects and how they are working in our lives. This is fundamental to the nature of synodic astrology.
Neptune's placement in and passage through this area of Aquarius inspires idealism that liberates, dissolves social boundaries and unifies people for the greater wellbeing of the whole, and it brings inspiration to create humanitarian efforts, resources and vessels through which to do so.
Our opportunity as we enter and move into the last quarter of this cycle is to first recognize that the structures we have created in our lives and the limits those structures impose are the solidification of ideologies we began to formulate starting in 1989. It impels us to begin to consciously make changes in our lives based upon realizations we have had about what did and did not work in practicality throughout the previous manifestation quarter of the cycle; i.e., from 2007 until now. The summation of these realizations may now emerge throughout this geocentric square (2015-16) as impulses arising from within self that tell us, we need to change.
Simply, the structures we have built in our lives and in the world can no longer support our shifting ideologies. Neptune's movement from Sagittarius, at the start of the Saturn-Neptune-Uranus cycles, through Capricorn and into and through Aquarius, inspires a shift in our idealogies to evolve a more mature altruistic-based societal structure concerned with the fundamental nourishment and survival of humanity.
The technological advancements and throwaway gadgetry used to communicate, educate and interact through media (including social media) developed from the impetus of the Saturn-Uranus and Saturn-Neptune 1988-1989 synods in Sagittarius, although of lofty ideals to create a more unified global awareness, now become but a mere skeletal structure, propelling us to embrace more altruistic ideals, a deeper more meaningful transcendent pursuit. As Neptune continues its sojourn through the aquatics (the stars of Aquarius and Pisces) and toward the location where the new Saturn-Neptune cycle will engage in December of 2025 (in early sidereal Pisces), we are impelled to relinquish the importance given to and attachment to the transitory phantasmagorical products of the previous cycle, to prepare for far-more palpable human concerns.
The transitional period into the last quarter of this cycle (November 2015 through September 2016) may arouse any grief, sorrow, regrets and disillusionment about unfulfilled ideals, impelling a need to relinquish any antiquated or illusory beliefs, as well as any emotional charge we hold that sustains them. It impels us to shed that which we now come to realize were mere ghosts of illusion, like discarding a costume and role we were playing in a stage production, now to reveal, mostly to ourselves, the raw truth and wisdom gained from our experience. This Saturn-Neptune transition yields sobering realism.
This transitional period may also impel us to recognize and shed any fear-based self-sabotaging modalities of being we may have been using to hide behind or that keep us from living a greater freedom of being, free from any repetitive patterns of the past. We may come to find these constrictive patterns we once sought solace in are no longer of value, or simply no longer work.
This period may also accentuate society's efforts and challenges to achieve liberation from any authoritarian or totalitarian domination, especially of a religious-political nature that impede elevating our ideals into a greater unified spiritual awareness. It may also intensify resistance to change and conflict between religious-political factions impeding greater humanitarian efforts and ideals. Those unwilling to let go and change may find their fear increasing, attempting to fight even harder to keep their antiquated idealogies, and their beliefs to defend those idealogies, alive.
Notice that the first geocentric square occurs before the synodic square, which is the actual transition point from the previous quarter into the last quarter of the Saturn-Neptune cycle. Thus, the first geocentric square occurs in the phase transition leading into the actual synodic square. The characteristic leading into a 270° square arouses an "inner need to change" in the context of the theme of the entire cycle. Thus, this first square brings attention to this need. The second and third geocentric squares occur after the synodic square, a time of "initiating change." These squares bring impetus to start implementing those changes in our lives.
In the analogy in the cycle of plants, the 270° square and the last quarter to follow, is where the structure of the plant has served its purpose, and it becomes time to plow under the crops and cultivate the soil for a new season, or in some cases, such as with vines, it is a time of dormancy, a time when the "art of pruning" begins. Pruning in the proper stages throughout the dormant period determines if we have a plant capable of producing healthy and abundant fruit in the next growing season. It is a time to remove that which impedes, which is out grown its purpose and is no longer of value, to cultivate self for a new season yet to come.
The Saturn-Neptune square may feel rather overwhelming to some people, impelling a desire to escape, to retreat into sleepy dreams or fantasies of the past as a way to check out, although perhaps better than attempting to fight one's way out. It is normal to feel disappointment over the past, confusion and lack of clarity as we make the transition into the last quarter of this cycle. As we do, the changes will occur as we realize our past ideals and that which we have built around them begin to morph and dissolve like scenes in a dream. This is a process, a slow one, so let us breathe with it. As we enter the last quarter of this cycle, which continues from 2016 through 2025, several major transitions occurring in many other planetary cycles entwine, augmenting the nature of the last quarter of this Saturn-Neptune cycle. For certain, greater change is at hand.
And so castles made of sand, fall in the sea, eventually.
How the Saturn-Neptune square effects you personally is a function of what planets and points in your natal (or relocated) chart Saturn and Neptune aspect throughout their geocentric square, tempered and augmented by where you are in your own personal cycles. Also consider the ideologies, dreams and visions you may have formulated in and after 1989, those you were excited to act upon in 1998-1999, at the time of the first (90°) square, and consider the climax and realizations you may have had in 2006-2007, leading into and during the opposition (180°), along with the manifestations to follow from then to now, ideals fulfilled or disappointments brought (during the manifestation quarter of the cycle), as it is time now (2016) to shed what is outdated, along with any emotional attachments to them. The following last quarter of this 34-year cycle (2016-2025) invites us to plow under our established ideological beliefs and to cultivate our consciousness for the seed from this past cycle to coalesce and gestate for a birth of new ideologies yet to come.
One of several ways to explore your personal Saturn-Neptune dynamic is with one of the basic techniques of synodic astrology, which can add context to the square occurring now. Look at where Saturn is relative to Neptune in your natal chart. That arc or aspect, from Neptune to Saturn, reveals where you are in the Saturn-Neptune cycle you birthed into, that is, how and in what areas of your life you are working with that cycle. The cycle's theme, revealed by the original Saturn-Neptune synod, provides the underlying context for the placement of your natal Saturn and Neptune. If you were born after the February 18, 1953 synod and before the 1989 synod, then you birthed into the previous Saturn-Neptune cycle (which occurred in late sidereal Virgo conjoining Spica and Heze of Virgo, Archturus and Nekkar of Bootes, and Eta Carinae of Argo Navis). If you were born after the 1989 synod, your Saturn and Neptune placements are expressed through the context of the current cycle's theme.
The current Saturn-Neptune cycle completes and the next begins on the December 11, 2025 synod, which lies in early sidereal Pisces conjoining the Vernal Point of Earth's Precessional Cross, Scheat of the Pegasus Great Square, and the tail of Cetus.
The Saturn-Neptune synod occurs with Neptune maintaining a heliocentric mid-point position between Pluto and Uranus for about two years (2025-2027). Sustained heliocentric midpoints create strong geophysical resonances and societal shifts, especially when coinciding with planetary synods and primary synodic cycle aspects. An example of this occurred in 1965-1967, with Saturn, Neptune, Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto creating a series of sustained midpoints, at the time of the start of the Uranus-Pluto 138-year cycle.

The Jupiter-Neptune heliocentric opposition occurs on November 5, 2015. Geocentrically, there is only one opposition, which occurred on September 17, 2015 (shown in this graphic ephemeris). There is only one opposition because Jupiter's retrogrades occur before and after the ecliptical longitude opposite Saturn, although the May 9, 2016 direct station comes to within a 1° 33' orb. Jupiter does however make three oppositions with Chiron. This is of pertinence because Chiron plays a key role in the original synodic cycle, as presented below.
The Jupiter-Neptune opposition marks the climatic mid-point of vision and realization in the current 12.72-year Jupiter-Neptune synodic cycle that began on September 19, 2009. The upcoming 270° heliocentric square occurs on May 4, 2019, with the geocentric square expressing from January through September of 2019. This cycle completes on the following June 6, 2022 synod. Let us first revisit the underlying theme of this cycle before exploring the current opposition.

This was a compounded synod with Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune occurring on the cusp of sidereal Aquarius. At the time, Chiron and Neptune maintained a close conjunction for a longer period of time (2009-2010) as faster moving Jupiter joined in to make its conjunction with the two (shown in the adjacent animation).
Amorphous Neptune inspires our ideals, dreams and visions, but is also of our illusions and veils. It also impels us to seek our deeper transcendent nature, that which is below the surface turbulence of the thinking or rational mind. This is why it is associated with meditation practices and also with psychedelic drugs or other mind altering experiences.
Chiron impels us to get in touch with, face and heal our wounds, a process of unconditionally embracing our wounds with an open heart, willing to feel any emotion attached to those wounds rather then defending why we are wounded with judgmental mind. All wounds are cellular memory patterns that block us from becoming healthy and whole, and from expressing our full potential. Defending "why" we are hurt, unhealthy or wounded results in nothing more than further suppressing those unhealthy cellular patterns, creating more chronic conditions, often leading us to seek quick band-aid fixes or temporary feel-good patterns of behavior that merely mask and suppress the symptoms. This process of being unconditionally willing to dive below the surface of symptomology and feel, whatever the emotions may be, allows those very wounds to become the means, the elixir, that allows our inner transmutation into a refined vibrational resonance. This is a process of how to bring oneself through what is commonly called a Healing Crisis. When Chiron and Neptune synthesized in 2009-2010, they impelled a healing journey to delve into deeper more transcendent areas of self and clear our veils or lacework of cellular patterns that keep us bound in illusions and delusions, to clear out our own neurological web. As presented above, Neptune is also about the formulation of society's ideologies. So how does this work for society as a whole and for us as individuals making up society and society's ideologies? A common tendency is to place blame on society for our individual condition, something that is easy to do. There is some truth here, since we as individuals making up society, and society as a whole, compose one interactive evolving system. As a collective of individuals, we create the condition of the whole, healthy or otherwise, and we are faced with dealing with that whole, and as new life incarnates into society's collective environmental resonance, that vibrational patterning imprints upon soul's patterning and intent of purpose. Children, in their formative years, are influenced far more by and function from the inner (personal) planets. During this period, children unconsciously flow along with and react to the resonance of the outer more transpersonal planets and the societal and generational patterns they create. It is not until later in life, as adults, when they can begin to consciously work with the outer planets' energetics within self, and even then, some merely continue to react, place blame and rebel against society, the environmental resonance in which they find themselves. Those who are more mature souls choose to do the deep level of inner work these outer planets offer.
Chiron is often called the Wounded Healer, which means that our wounds are that which heal ourselves, that which makes us whole. Those who embrace the Chiron healing journey within self transmute their vibrational resonance, they spiritualize their wounds, subsequently maturing in all ways, especially emotionally, learning to own their emotions and their experience rather than perceiving themselves as victims of their experience in society, and perpetuate their lacework of illusion by either placing blame outside of self in judgement, anger and retaliation, or passively wait to be saved by someone or some future event to come—the illusory side of the Chiron-Neptune conjunction and cycle. The resonance of the people truly doing the inner work to become whole, and who demonstrate the expression of that wholeness in their lives and in the world, are those who elevate society's collective resonance, those who are capable of creating a bridge into a new vision of reality awaiting us beyond the veils of Neptune. Here lies the essence of the Chiron-Neptune synthesis and what this Chiron-Neptune cycle offers.
The primary stars conjoining the Aquarian cuspal synod are those composing the heart and wing of Cygnus the Swan, also known as the Northern Galactic Cross, because Cygnus lies along the Galactic Equator.
Sadr (Gamma) Cygnus, heart of the Swan (or heart of the northern the galactic cross) marks the cusp of sidereal Aquarius, from which extends the wing of Cygnus, from Sadr to Gienah, to Zeta Cygni, the tip of the wing. We also have the Gamma Cygni Nebula providing a backdrop for Sadr, and the Veil (Lacework) Nebula residing on the wing near Gienah.
This area in the ecliptic is where we are motivated to strip off the cloaks of personality-based facades and shenanigans to reveal true heart-level self and to live from our deeper hearts' truth for the greater nourishment of all. Sadr, the heart, and Gienah, the wing of Cygnus, lifts us from a self-centered exclusive focus to a more embracing and inclusive level of participation. This marks the start of the true humanitarian facet of the zodiak.

Also marking the cusp of sidereal Aquarius is the Quasar 2134+004, which resides in Aquarius. This Quasar inspires us to enter deep within self and to bring forth our unique substance and soul essence that is of true value to each other and to the world, rather than projecting just superficial skin-deep appearances or false facades common to earlier sidereal Capricorn. Here we are motivated to demonstrate our capacity to participate with true humanitarian vision, with interest for all rather than for the manipulation of an exclusive few.
Jupiter's arrival on the scene in 2009 engaged our current 12.7-year Jupiter-Neptune synodic cycle, which began on September 19, 2009, and the 13.4-year Jupiter-Chiron synodic cycle, which began on September 4, 2009. At the time, Chiron was about 1° to its synod with Neptune, which occurred on February 26, 2010, engaging the current 84.76-year Chiron-Neptune synodic cycle. Jupiter continues to make cycles with Chiron and Neptune during the longer Chiron-Neptune cycle, each time mobilizing and expanding upon the progression occurring within the Chiron-Neptune cycle and the expression of the original synodic theme. The continuing Jupiter-Chiron and Jupiter Neptune (~13-year) sub-cycles occurring in the much longer Chiron-Neptune cycle will carry this energetic forward for many decades to come.
Jupiter, King of the Planets, imparts a mobilizing and expansive force. It stimulates fluidity in movement, vitality and enthusiasm. It is of reciprocityhow we receive and re-express that which we have gained as gifts to the world. Jupiter is sociable and expresses in openness and willingness to palpate and embrace life, people and experience. It imparts a kinesthetic and magnetic quality.
Jupiter motivates us to aspire for something larger in our lives, beyond our current bounds. Jupiter will tend to magnify and expand the qualities of any other planet that it conjoins. Jupiter is often associated with money and the flow of resources because Jupiter is a mobilizing force and money is a mobilizing agent.
Jupiter is of higher or natural law, as compared to man's laws. It is of Spiritual Truth and stimulates action upon this greater truth. Jupiter is serendipitous, opportunistic, fortunate and lucky; with taste for and appreciation of elegance end beauty (along with Venus). It is fun loving, good natured, free and independent. As the 36.4-year Saturn-Neptune cycle impels us to formulate knowledge and create practical structure around our ideologies, the faster moving 12-year Jupiter-Neptune cycles augment the Saturn-Neptune cycle by creating a progression to expand our idealogies for the greater good in the process. The Saturn-Neptune synods progress by about 78° to 80° through the ecliptic, while the Jupiter-Neptune cycles progress through the ecliptic by about 28°.
The cycles created by Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune come close to synchronizing about every 179 years (0590 (~5°), 0948 (~3°), 1127 (~6°), 1306 (w/Ur) (~12° orb),1485 (21° orb), 1702 (~7° orb), 1881 (~13°), 2060 ~16°)).
Unlike a Saturn-Neptune synthesis, which is cooling and wants to consolidate and solidify ideologies, dreams and visions into beliefs, structures and forms, and is more conservative and authoritarian in nature, a Jupiter-Neptune synthesis is warming and wants to expand and mobilize our idealogies, dreams and visions. It is more socially oriented. progressive and opportunistic minded.
Jupiter's synthesis with Neptune and Chiron mobilized the Chiron-Neptune energetic in society. It brought the concepts of self-help and self-healing far more into vogue. Occurring within the influence of the stars at cuspal sidereal Aquarius (Sadr,etc.), the Jupiter-Neptune-Chiron synthesis set in motion a significant evolutionary current to dissolve concepts of segregation based upon our superficial differences and to embrace from a more inclusive altruistic vision with our need to address and heal deep-seated wounds of society as a whole. It inspired a social movement to reach out and bridge societal differences for this greater humanitarian pursuit.
Jupiter also inflated and exaggerated the Chiron-Neptune energetic obscuring the reality of the situation. Perhaps of most significance in this regard is that it magnified societal wounds while at the same time instilling blind faith and inflating illusory ideals that the healing of those wounds and society could just magically happen, as if this would be a shortcut to personal salvation and global illumination, bypassing the inner work required for personal and societal evolution, an energetic especially prominent during the first few years of this cycle (2009-2012).
Now, at the oppositions (2016) of the Jupiter-Neptune and Jupiter-Chiron cycles, we come to realize the magnitude of what is truly involved to liberate ourselves and humanity from deep societal wounds, and that it takes more than band-aids and mere optimism to address those issues. Personally, it brings impetus to separate out dreams and visions of worthy pursuit from mere inflated idealism, idealistic enthusiasm set in motion by the Jupiter-Neptune-Chiron synthesis that began in 2009. It also impels us to sort out what it means to be genuinely successful and what is of true value from transitory superficial appearances composed of glitter and glamour. Something to remember at this time is to not suffer over our suffering, lamenting over what did not work over the years past, but to expand our philosophical awareness beyond our previous veils to see new solutions, and to continue to mobilize our ideals, but now with more pragmatic optimism regarding what it truly takes to cross a bridge into a more fulfilling life, and into a new world paradigm.
The period extending from now (2016) throughout the third quarter of this cycle (continuing into the 2019 Jupiter-Neptune 270° square) impels a progressive manifestation of more liberal and humanitarian ideologies. This occurs concurrently with the impetus to relinquish antiquated ideological beliefs and what have now become constricting structures sustaining those beliefs, catalyzed by the Saturn-Neptune 270° square. This is a significant and strong shift occurring in the evolutionary currents driving sociopolitics, which we should see play out over the few years ahead. Saturn's mid-Scorpio (Antares) placement may result in a strong stand to maintain dominance taken by established authoritarian forces resisting change in the realms of business and politics, which is common to the Antares-Aldebaran axis.
The faster Jupiter-Saturn and Jupiter-Neptune cycles modulate the longer 36.4-year Saturn-Neptune cycle impelling a progressive development of our ideological beliefs formulating our sociopolitical structures.
As we enter the last quarter of the Saturn-Neptune cycle, a time to change antiquated ideological structures in that cycle, and as we enter the third quarter (second half) of the Jupiter-Neptune cycle (and the third quarter of the Jupiter-Chiron cycle), a time of realization and manifestation in that cycle, we also enter the last quarter of the 20-year Jupiter-Saturn cycle.
Jupiter-Saturn cycles are one of the most powerful and influential in our solar system dynamics. The cycles of these two most massive planets in our solar system significantly interact and breathe with the Sun, synchronizing with solar cycles, which in turn drive climatic cycles. Jupiter's magnetic field creates a huge, intense and complex magnetosphere that is larger than the diameter of the Sun and envelops the orbit of Saturn.
Saturn demonstrates and validates by concretizing in form that which Jupiter expands to embrace. Jupiter expands and mobilizes what Saturn consolidates and solidifies. In so doing, these 20-year cycles influence the very breath of the Sun and subsequently life throughout our solar system. Jupiter-Saturn cycles are fundamental to growth. Jupiter tends to magnify the limitations Saturn imposes. Jupiter stimulates the expansion of new growth upon the established structures Saturn solidifies. Jupiter is ligamentous and muscular while Saturn is calciferous and structural.
This particular cycle, which began in June of 2000 and completes in 2020, is unique because it finalizes with the triple conjunction of Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto (all square to Eris). This means that the completion, and start, of three cycles coincide in 2020—the 20-year Jupiter-Saturn cycle, the 12.5-year Jupiter-Pluto cycle and the 37-year Saturn-Pluto cycle. This also means the last quarter of the Jupiter-Saturn cycle, occurs in the last phases of the other two cycles—creating a significant completion period (2016-2020) culminating in 2020, a pivotal year, which initiates a significant new evolutionary current as these three new cycles simultaneously engage. This also occurs as the last quarters of the Jupiter-Eris, Saturn-Eris and Pluto-Eris cycles begin.
• Saturn and Pluto conjoin and complete their previous, and initiate their new, 37-year synodic cycles in January 2020. Ceres and Mars also conjoin making their synods with Saturn and Pluto at the same time, completing and initiating the Ceres-Saturn and Ceres-Pluto cycles.
• Jupiter and Pluto conjoin and complete their previous, and initiate their new, 12.5-year synodic cycles in July 2020. Pallas also conjoins and makes its synods with Jupiter and Pluto at the same time, completing and initiating the Pallas-Jupiter and Pallas-Pluto cycles.
• Jupiter and Saturn conjoin and complete their previous, and initiate their new, 20-year synodic cycles in November 2020.
Saturn-Eris cycle began in November 1987. Heliocentric last quarter begins in February 2020.
Jupiter-Eris cycle began in June 1999. Heliocentric last quarter begins in August 2020.
Pluto-Eris cycle began on January 1, 1757 (Opp 1977). Heliocentric last quarter begins in August 2020.
Our current Jupiter-Saturn cycle began on June 22, 2000 in late sidereal Aries, expressing through one geocentric conjunction occurring on May 28, 2000. Conjoining stars setting the theme of this cycle include Botein of Aries and Rana of Eridanus.
Classically, Aries is figured as a reclining ram with its head looking back over itself, admiring his own golden fleece. The theme of Aries the Ram, whether articulated by Andromeda and the Royal Family or Jason and the Argonauts search for the Golden Fleece, is about the initiatory challenges that continually create obstacles and limitations across life's path. These obstacles, often created by our righteous attitudes of arrogance or greed, can create painful and repetitive lessons in the fires of life, lessons that ultimately produce the alchemical honing of self and that awakens us from a self-consuming focus of personal need to one of selfless creative leadership. In essence, the stars of sidereal Aries articulate our journey through life. In general, they impel self-initiated action for personal attainment. They are of stamina, determination and independence, and they produce an energizing drive that seeks excitement for a challenge.
Botein, although meaning the belly (of the Ram) actually marks the hind foot in late sidereal Aries. Botein conjoins Omicron and Xi Taurus, two minor stars of Taurus, which mark the beginning of the constellation (not sign). Botein, Omi and Xi impart a fiery energetic force, a creative potential about to erupt. Botein can impart a sense of aloneness, of feeling left behind, or the need to forge ahead through one's own efforts. These stars can also create a sense of frustration, as any fear or hesitancy to step through a physical initiation must be confronted before this potential can express.
Rana and Zaurak of Eridanus lie the southern heavens expressing through the last few degrees of sidereal Aries. Rana, conjoining Botein, one of many stopping points along the river of life (Eridanus), is a place for physical regeneration, to regain our will power, strength, and stamina in preparation for greater challenges yet to come.
Overall, this location in the ecliptic is of a regenerative nature—primal, sexual, erotic, creative and inventive. It can also be volatile, quickly eruptive or explosive like a volcano, penetrating, sharp-tongued, competitive, even somewhat hostile. Thus it requires a need to channel this energy. Either way, it asks us to get grounded and trust instinct rather than reason; and to clear any fears in preparation for the physical challenges lying ahead.
Jupiter-Saturn synods impel the expansion and influence of existing structures in our lives. They also impel societal expansion based upon established knowledge evolved throughout the past cycle. This specific Jupiter-Saturn cycle also brought impetus to become self-dependent and self-sufficient, rather than depending on large established structural systems of governance (fitting to the fraudulent banking and financial crisis scenarios emerging in the midst of this cycle). For the younger soul, this energetic could impel a reactionary, survivalist and combative mentality, dealing with issues of self-preservation. For others more aware, it may impel responsible activism to effect an expansion in the awareness of collective consciousness, specifically to address perceived threats of governing bureaucracies, such as the anti-World Trade Organization movement against globalization policies; e.g., the Seattle-WTO protests emerging at the time.1 Here we also address issues regarding manipulation, pride and arrogance driven by fear and their ramifications, and the slaying of that fear to claim individual self-empowerment. Others may express this energetic as an active force in the world by applying personal power in leadership roles to expand the influence of existing bureaucratic organizations, efforts by some for personal advantage, control or dominion, and efforts by some to truly help others through selfless, kind, considerate, charitable, magnanimous and noble efforts—efforts common to an older soul.
Interestingly, the book, "The Cultural Creatives," by sociologist Paul H. Ray and psychologist Sherry Ruth Anderson, was published in 2000, based on observations Ray realized in 1987, about the emergence of new subculture in the 1960s. Although not about astrological cycles, this book is a hallmark statement articulating the progression of cycles: the Uranus-Pluto cycle (with Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune) in the mid-60s, the 1988-89 Saturn-Uranus-Neptune cycles, and the 2000 Jupiter-Saturn cycle. The Jupiter-Saturn heliocentric square occurs on September 21, 2015, which marks the actual square in the 20-year cycle. It expresses through three geocentric squares occurring on August 3, 2015, March 23, 2016 (with Jupiter retrograde), and May 26, 2016 (with Saturn retrograde).
The last quarter square impels movement and expansion beyond constructs in our lives, especially those we evolved from 2000, as those structures have served their purpose for the growth we have gained, but now restrict any further growth or personal fulfilment. It also impels expansion beyond societal models and sociopolitical structures that also have now become limiting and restricting, an energetic set in motion throughout 2016 and that will continue throughout the last quarter of the cycle, completing as the new cycle engages in 2020 under Altair, Eye of the Eagle.
Jupiter and Saturn also transit the United States Pluto in 2020, preceding the U.S. Pluto Return, occurring in 2022.
The second Jupiter-Saturn geocentric square (March 23) creates a potent T-Square with the March 9, 2016 Total Solar Eclipse. At the time, Jupiter and Saturn are just a few degrees to their actual square, which occurs on the Full Moon Lunar eclipse occurring in the same Lunar Cycle. This creates a significant energetic expressing from this eclipse lunar cycle throughout the third square occurring on June 3. Also note the tight Jupiter-Saturn orb between the second and third squares leading into the second Saturn-Neptune square in the above graphic ephemeris, accentuating the impetus to create change in both cycles.

The Ceres-Chiron Solar Eclipse / Saturn / Jupiter T-Square, is a part of the second geocentric Jupiter-Saturn square. This square occurs after the heliocentric (synodic) square, which means that we are now in the actual last quarter of the 20-year Jupiter Saturn Cycle. Prior to the heliocentric square, an inner need to change was emerging in consciousness. Now, the second and third geocentric squares impel us to begin to actualize change.
This South Node Solar Eclipse T-Square, and this lunar cycle, creates a powerful force to let go of constructs in our lives that no longer provide room for growth, movement and expansion. In other words, we have grown as far as the limits imposed by those constructs have permitted. It is now time to either begin to change those constructs so they can allow a greater level of growth, expansion and fulfillment, or to dismantle those constructs all together. This Eclipse T-Square brings this to a crisis point, which becomes a strong undercurrent for the next six months. Think of a T-Square like a loaded crossbow about to release, and it will fire. This sustained T-Square configuration makes this crossbow even stronger and more potent.
Astrologers Note: A T-Square is one configuration of a midpoint configuration. When any planet lies at the midpoint between two other planets, independent of any aspect, that mid-point planet creates a perfect "geometric mean" with the other two planets such that it becomes the mediator for and expression of the other two planets. Sustained midpoint configurations are especially catalytic. Sustained heliocentric midpoint configurations create especially strong solar system resonances, which accentuate the potential for geophysical and societal change catalyzed by additional planetary aspects.
A new Earth-Jupiter 399-day cycle engages during Jupiter's retrograde hours before the New Moon Total Eclipse of March 9 UT. This is an especially significant synodic cycle due to the Jupiter-Saturn square, the Jupiter-Neptune opposition, it occurring on the eclipse, and Jupiter's Lunar North Node passage. The magnetic moment (directional movement of force) of the South Node Solar Eclipse expresses into or impregnates retrograde Jupiter, and thus an inward expansion of consciousness, which will become outward motivation after Jupiter completes its retrograde.
The Seyfert Galaxy NGC4151 in Canes Venatici conjoins Asterion and Mizar. Seyfert galaxies are spiral galaxies that have very dense and bright cores (nuclei) that express a broad spectrum of emission lines, which suggests extremely hot gases in violent motion. This new cycle brings even more emphasis to the limitations of what have now become antiquated structures we have created in our lives, both personal and societal. The Earth-Jupiter synod occurs under the auspices of fiery and creative Mizar of the Great Bear, expressing through the stars of late Leo.
Mizar's creative impetus must have a outlet, but for its proper expression, we must apply it with clear creative vision. Mizar brings attention to the use of our creative energies, our creative and destructive tendencies, and the fear to create lest it may result in destruction. Here we learn the nature of such volatile forces. Mizar tends to express in a grand way, in character with showy and dramatic Leo. Mizar imparts a dynamic, action oriented creative artistic expression. Although of a dynamic, outgoing, artistic creative character, Mizar and its companion stars (Asterion of the Barking Hounds, Chort of Leo and Delta Velorum) expressing through the energetics at the hind of the Lion can also produce a lot of dramatic racket and fiery commotion due to toxic conditions or an unrefined awareness. This can also be a part of the often diversionary tactics intended to mislead and distract the unsuspecting from the real issues or path at hand.
Also conjoining is the pulsar CP1133 nesting at the hind of the Lion, in the triangle of stars created by Zosma, Chort and Denebola. Pulsars in general are beacons for the soul, providing an inner message or a constant reminder for those attentive to such subtleties. This pulsar, for the less conscious, may lure one into the monotonous drone of the diversionary propaganda and dramas offer by the media. For the more attentive it may act as a constant reminder about the prolific foul winds that could fuel a diversionary fire, and the need to act upon our intuition and upon the more subtle evolutionary and guiding currents articulated by the stars of Velorum, the sail of the Argo, in the southern heavens. Delta Velorum provides and opening or way through the diversionary dramatics in the global arena for those attuned to more refined evolutionary currents.
This new Earth-Jupiter synodic theme and its 399-day expression impels dynamic, expansive, mobilizing and wide-sweeping creative expression, but can also exaggerate diversionary tactics through grand spectacle. Jupiter's retrograde impels an inward expansion of conscious awareness to discern the truth and what is of true value hidden behind the dramatic and deceptive antics occurring in the world. The inward expansion and wisdom gained during Jupiter's retrograde, and this new synodic theme, will externalize when Jupiter completes its retrograde on May 9, and especially when Jupiter crosses the North Lunar Node in late June of 2016.
Many people on Earth, if not the mass majority, function primarily from the reptilian and limbic (mammalian) parts of the triune brain, the former responsible for autonomic function and survival responses, and the latter responsible for emotional and social responses. This is why fear-based propaganda and feel-good advertising are so effective to create blind followings. The neocortex, or human brain, is the third part of the triune brain, used to a mere fraction of its capacity by most people. It enables our ability to think for ourselves and to aspire for the greater evolutionary wellbeing of the human race, beyond reactive primal and emotional responses. Expansive and mobilizing Jupiter resonates with the neocortex. Jupiter's bio-harmonics are ideal to support the activation and expansion of the neocortex and our altruistic capacity.
This Jupiter cycle impels us to discern for ourselves and to mobilize our own creative potential based from our own wisdom rather than reacting to and continuing to blindly follow the antic propaganda of antiquated sociopolitical structures. Saturn nesting amongst the stars of Scorpio, and being the focal point of the Total Eclipse-Saturn-Jupiter T-Square, can express as a desperate fight for survival by existing and long-standing authoritarian structures. At the same time, due in part to the climax of the Jupiter-Neptune cycle, there is tremendous impetus to mobilize a greater humanitarian ideal. This is a strong catalyst for change throughout 2016, as well as the tone set as we move into the last quarter of the Jupiter-Saturn cycle, and the Jupiter-Pluto and Saturn-Pluto cycles, to complete in 2020.

Orcus is a planet of our solar system discovered on Feb 19, 2004 by Mike Brown, a professor of planetary science at the California Institute of Technology, and colleagues Chad Trujillo and David Rabinowitz. It was named Orcus on Nov 22, 2004. Although Orcus is a bit smaller than Pluto, Orcus has a nearly identical orbital size, orbital period (year), and orbital inclination. However, Orcus' orbital plane's orientation in our solar system is tilted in the opposite direction from Pluto's. Orcus' orbital parameters clearly reveals Orcus to be Pluto's compliment, with similarities and differences. Just as Pluto has Charon as its primary moon, so too does Orcus have a moon, named Vanth, a benevolent female daimon (mediator, gatekeeper, demigod) who guides the dead to the underworld in Etruscan mythology, especially after violent deaths. Just as Pluto and Charon are considered a dual planetary system due to their spin-orbit sycnchonicity, so is Orcus-Vanth.
Pluto & Orcus | Power & Purpose
Pluto and Orcus, amongst others in the family, lie beyond the transpersonal planets Uranus and Neptune, in the Kuiper Belt. Planets in Kuiper belt have much larger orbital distances and longer orbital periods, and as such are forces that resonate more with our underlying soul essence expressing through our incarnational experience. Here we seek deeper meaning transcendent to our externalized experience.
Objects in this area of our Solar system are called Trans-Neptunian Objects (TNOs) or Kuiper Belt Objects (KBOs). Those with orbits beyond the classical Kuiper belt, like Sedna and many others, are called Inner Oort cloud objects.
Pluto & Orcus: Soul Power and Soul Purpose
Orcus, although Pluto like, expresses a quiet profundity, almost unnoticed as it serves us to find meaning in life or purpose in life's experiences, or more ideally, to access our deeper soul purpose. Pluto dramatically forces us into the underworld of our incarnate experience to confront and clear out our deepest fears and behavioral patterns cloaking the true power of our souls. Orcus, complementing this process, impels an emotionally detached observant pursuit to apprehend our soul purpose, such as through meditation, lucid dreaming and other spiritual or occult practices, to bring to awareness our soul-level agreements, to what we are really doing here on Earth—the oaths of our souls—into conscious awareness. Once found, Orcus imparts a continuous force to live true to those oaths and to apply the power of our souls from this awareness to contribute to our soul growth and to human society. More about Orcus and Pluto. Keep mind that the nuances of Orcus' astrological influence are not entirely clear, due to its recent discovery, and are still being explored by astrologers. So my take on Orcus is surely incomplete and somewhat speculative.
Orcus and Pluto not only have a 1:1 orbital resonance with each other, but both also have a special resonance with Neptune. Neptune is in a 3:2 "mean motion orbital resonance" with Pluto and with Orcus. That means that Neptune makes 3 orbits while Pluto makes 2 orbits between each synod (before the Sun and the two planets align), and the same occurs for Neptune and Orcus. This is significant for several reasons.
In the geometry of space and time, a 3:2 resonance is a musical perfect 5th. A musical fifth is the most universally consonant (pleasing to the ear and emotionally peaceful) harmonic. It is also the most durative (strong and long lasting) compared to other harmonics which subside in amplitude before the fifth. In terms of astronomy and astrology, this means there is a durative and very harmonious resonance between Pluto and Neptune and between Orcus and Neptune. By harmonious, I mean that the orbital qualities of the planets easily flow between and support one another, much like trine planets in astrology (also a musical fifth), although the other astrophysical parameters of each planet augment how.

Orcus orbital period: 245.32 years
Neptune orbital period:163.72 years
Pluto-Neptune orbital ratio = 1.514903493769851
Orcus-Neptune orbital ratio = 1.498411922795016
Orcus and Pluto's orbital periods translate into the turquoise area of the visible light spectrum, to ~564 Hz in the mid-audio range (between the notes C# and D) and to ~8.8 Hz (brainwave ƒ).
Neptune's orbital period translates into the orange area of the visible light spectrum, to ~423 Hz in the mid-audio range (between the notes Ab and A) and to ~6.6 Hz (brainwave ƒ).

Another reason of significance, more relevant to our current Neptune-Orcus opposition, is that the location of Orcus at the time of a Neptune-Orcus opposition is very close to the location of the original synod, which is due both to the 3:2 orbital resonance and the very slow movement of Orcus. (The same holds true for Neptune and Pluto.) Orcus starts its second orbital cycle at the time of the opposition. Thus, at the opposition, the climatic time of vision, perspective and realization in the Neptune-Orcus cycle, there is a strong reemphasis of the stellar energetics that defined the original synodic cycle theme.
Neptune-Pluto cycles, in part, are about making passage though our ideological veils to discover the unadulterated spiritual power of our souls. In this process, Pluto brings us to face our demons, to cut through, what to soul are superficial illusory ideological overlays manifesting as unhealthy behavioral patterns that keep us from embodying our greater soul awareness. If in resistance, we often draw what may seem as ruthless experiences seemingly cast upon us that open the path to this deep cathartic process, oft through a dark night of the soul. Neptune-Orcus cycles, in complement, impel us to uncover and discover souls' incarnational purpose, once entry to soul awareness has been made. Pluto is the opener to soul's power and Orcus reveals soul's purpose as we step through Helle's door. Pluto is more quantitative, about intensity and force, and is expressive, while Orcus seems more qualitative, about meaning and value, and is receptive. Neptune-Orcus inspires us to open our inner mind's eye beyond that which we see through the illusory filters of mere human eyes.
The Neptune-Orcus 498-year synodic cycle began in 1764 CE (~early July) and will complete at the following synod occurring in ~2262 CE. At the 1764 synod, Orcus lies 18° south of the ecliptic approaching Gamma (γ) Sextans. Neptune lies just past Regulus of Leo. Primary influencing stars include Megrez and Phecda of the Great Bear, Regulus and Algieba of Leo, Praecipua of Leo Minor, and Alpha and Gamma Sextans.
Orcus makes a complete orbit about the Sun at the time of the Neptune-Orcus opposition and returns to about 3.5° past the original Neptune-Orcus synod, slightly past Gamma Sextans, conjoining Alpha and Gamma Sextans, and Al Kaphrah of Ursa Major. Neptune, of course, is in the opposite area of the heavens, in Aquarius. Neptune and Orcus will conjoin Alioth at the start of the following cycle occurring in ~2262.
Regulus, Alpha Leo, is "Chief or King of the Four Royal Stars" (Regulus Fomalhaut, Aldebaran, and Antares). Throughout antiquity Regulus was associated with royalty and kings (the colors royal blue and gold).
Copernicus named Alpha Leo Regulus, which is Latin for "prince" or "little king." The Babylonians knew it as the "Lion's Heart" and as the "Kingly Star." It was known to the earlier Akkadians of Mesopotamia as the "King of the Celestial Sphere," who ruled before the Great Flood. (Jim Kaler)
Its name is also given as "The Regulus" or "The Rex," meaning the "Law Giver." Regulus is considered the governing king of the four royals for several reasons. It lies almost exactly upon the ecliptic, thus, once a year around Aug 22-23, during Earth's orbit around the Sun, the Sun occults Regulus. Residing at 5° sidereal Leo, Regulus is the only one of the four royal stars prominently aspecting the fixed axis of Earth's Precessional Cross (the Gate of God at 5° Sag and the Gate of Man at 5° Gemini), both in longitude and in latitude. The Rex is therefore a foundational star insuring integrity and order.
On the personal level, Regulus is about our inner "vertical integrity," that is, living true to self, openly on the world stage. This means walking in confidence and with self-respect, aligned with the truth in our hearts, in thought, word, and deed. Our personal integrity, our inner vertical attunement, must precede any horizontal, humanitarian participation in the world (Leo's opposite Aquarian pole). Without this inner integrity we become self-sacrificing, entrapped in a sympathetic resonance of dance, giving self away at the cost of our hearts' truth. This perpetuates discord and dysfunction for self and for others because we are simply living a lie. Only by living from our personal integrity and true to heart do we provide opportunity for others to also stand in their integrity and live their truth. On the other side of coin, without the maturity of acknowledging the Aquarian polarity, we can become ego-driven, where it is all about “I” without caring or concern for others.
Regulus is of prominence, eminence, nobility, royalty, pride, courage, pioneering pursuits, self-reliance, independence, and influential leadership. Regulus impels the desire to create order and a dynamic pursuit to win, to be on top. Significant alignments with Regulus often indicate those with a prominent role in the global arena or who are in the limelight upon stage. Regulus motivates self-authority and self-expression motivated from the passion of the heart.
North of the Lion lies the Great Bear (Ursa Major), which extends west over sidereal Cancer as well. The variety of the Bear's stellar qualities fall into the ecliptic throughout these two sidereal signs. The primary stars of the Great Bear are generally associated with the global scene and world powers, but also impart specific energetics and lessons at a personal level.
Conjoining Regulus are Megrez and Phecda of the Great Bear. Megrez and Phecda impart a sense of responsibility for the effects of the expression of our selfhood in the world, especially for those in prestigious positions. They impel us to apply our self-expression to responsibly steer our evolutionary course, not only our personal course in life, and not from self-centeredness, but to also realize our expression influences the evolutionary course for others. They also impel us to examine if our persona and the image we project into the world is an honest expression of who we truly are, or if that expression is driven from ulterior motive for personal advantage. Megrez also teaches us discernment, to not be naïve by accepting things from their surface appearance alone, to realize there is motive and much more going on behind the scenes to create any appearance.
Al Kaphrah of Ursa Major extends from Megrez and Phecda, and the hind legs of the Great Bear extend from Al Kaphrah, to the hind feet of the Bear, Alula Borealis and Alula Australis, and Tania Borealis and Tana Australis. Al Kaphrah imparts a long-standing and established power, expressed as an assertive and powerful creative force applied to steer and protect. It is of stability, enduring strength and established authority. Al Kaphrah also impels the balanced distribution or delegation of power and authority.
South of the Lion is the Sextant. The primary stars are Alpha, Beta, and Gamma Sextans. The sextant is a navigational instrument used to determine the vertical position (angular distance) of the sun, moon or stars from the horizon to determine one's position. The Sextant's stars reveals our need to reassess our position or situation, to reorient ourselves, and to take a new tack toward our goals in life with conscious consideration for the changing evolutionary winds and currents upon which we must navigate.
On a basic level this can be in regard to changing our fundamental approach or path in life. On a greater scale, this can be in regard to changing allegiance of our energies from the outer world, self-sacrificing to diversionary forces or currents in the world around us, to the vertical integrity of our inner soul / source directive and truth.
The Neptune-Orcus cycle expresses through the context of these stellar energetics, thus bringing emphasis to apply our genuine selfhood or soul awareness, with self-authority and confidence to responsibly direct our evolutionary course.
The American Revolution began at the time of the start of this Neptune-Orcus cycle with revolutionaries of the American Colonies rejecting the authority of Great Britain, subsequently leading to the founding of the United States of America. Were those individuals catalyzing this revolutionary transition upon the global stage influenced by this original Neptune-Orcus synthesis? It seems fitting.
Pluto - Orcus
As mentioned earlier, the mass-majority are not necessarily at a place in their evolutionary development to make passage through the veils of Neptune to embrace Neptune's more spiritual refined resonances, and thus remained trapped behind what often become dogmatic beliefs, religious ideologies, paranormal phenomena and mass followings, perhaps left with only hope and faith that a power beyond their awareness will lead to salvation. This is not a bad thing, but simply is the nature of entering the trans-Neptunian domain. Neptune not only veils but also protects us from power and wisdom we are not yet ready to embody. In this case the influence of Pluto and Orcus becomes externalized rather than realized at a personal level. Power is seen and pursued as something outside of self, as is the obscure motive behind it or purpose of acquiring it.
There are many people however, perhaps millions now, who are seeking, awakening, and willing to do the inner work required to walk through the illusory veils cloaking their greater soul-level power and purpose on Earth. Now at the Neptune-Orcus opposition, we come to the climatic realization point in this process, and enter the fruit bearing phase to manifest that spiritual vision as power with purpose on Earth.
The heliocentric opposition occurs on March 5, 2014, which marks the actual midpoint in the Neptune-Orcus cycle. Neptune resides in sidereal Aquarius, between the longitudes of Sadalmelik and Sadachbia, and conjoining Fomalhaut of Piscis Aus. Orcus is 19° south of the ecliptic in Sextans, south of Leo.
Orcus also conjoins Pallas, which is also making passage through Sextans. Thus the midpoint of the current Pallas-Neptune cycle coincides with that of the Neptune-Orcus cycle, The Pallas-Neptune cycle began on January 29, 2012 in early sidereal Aquarius and continues through December 3, 2016 in mid Aquarius. Pallas and Orcus also initiate a new Pallas-Orcus cycle near the time of the Neptune-Orcus opposition (shown in the above star chart).
The Neptune-Orcus geocentric oppositions occur for several years surrounding the heliocentric opposition (2012-2016). Neptune stations within a fraction of a degree in opposition to Orcus on June 3, 2011. The actual geocentric oppositions occur in April and July of 2012, March and August of 2013, February and September of 2014, February and October of 2015, and January and November of 2016. As we enter the second half of the Neptune-Orcus cycle (2014-2016), the Neptune-Orcus opposition brings impetus to use our soul-level power of intent with purpose to steer our evolutionary course with the visionary ideals of an evolved altruistic humanitarian-based society (Neptune-Aquarius) through the dramatically changing evolutionary currents continuing over the years ahead.
The completion of the Jupiter-Saturn-Pluto cycles from 2016 through 2020 and last quarter of the Saturn-Neptune cycle (2016-2025) create a major turning, a time of shedding old skins, plowing under the crops and cultivating our lives for entirely new cycles yet to emerge in the next decade of this millennium.
Also contributing to this potent time of change is the unprecedented Uranus-Eris conjunction opposite Haumea of 2016-2017, which initiates the new Uranus-Eris 90-year synodic cycle and creates the midpoint of the Uranus-Haumea synodic cycle.
