Astronomical Myth is a "picture language," imagery that articulates the qualities of cosmic intelligence expressing throughout the greater heavens and through our lives. We are not separate from the greater heavens, from the stars and planets around us, or from our beloved Earth, but are intimate parts of this dynamic, continually unfolding heavenly symphony. This entirety is our cosmic consciousness, the totality of our being. To explore the greater heavens and the heavenly cycles is to explore that which we are--our embracing consciousness and our spiritual evolution.
The purpose of the Lunar Planner is to learn to live in the experiential awareness of the present. Although the material below can provide philosophical context for your personal experience, the New Moon is the ideal time to experientially "tune in" to get your personalized lunar month's theme. Then, consciously participate with the changing Lunar Phase Characteristics in the unfoldment of that theme in your daily life using the Lunar Calendar and Lunar Planner Introduction (links at the bottom).
This New Moon occurs in the last couple degrees of sidereal Aries, and conjoins Sedna, one of our newly discovered minor planets. This part of the heavens lies under the auspices of the story of the Royal Family. This is where princess Andromeda's fate is now out of the hands of King Cepheus and Queen Cassiopeia and is being transferred to what seems to be nothing but fate. Perseus, her beloved, is about to slay Medusa in order to claim his self-mastery, a prerequisite to step into his intended soul destiny, while Andromeda is now chained to the rocks by the sea, about to be devoured by Cetus the sea monster (the technobureaucratic monster created by collective human consciousness). Tension and anticipation mounts. Perseus must slay Medusa (his inner fears), lest he will turn to stone (become frozen in fear) before he can aid his beloved Andromeda. The New Moon stars are Zaurak and Rana of Eridanus, and Botein of Aries. Zaurak marks a point of pause along the River of Life. Here we must trust our inner heart light and intuition, regain our strength, and follow through despite the path may not be entirely visible, even tumultuous. Overall, this location in the ecliptic is of a regenerative nature--primal, creative and inventive; but it can also be volatile, quickly eruptive or explosive.
Mars and newly discovered Makemake begin a new 1.9-year (synodic) cycle. Makemake continues to play a very prominent role in the ongoing global financial restructuring. In fact, it was just after the Last Quarter Moon of the previous lunar cycle when Jupiter made its first of three oppositions to Makemake. This was May 5-6, when Europe’s failure to contain Greece’s fiscal crisis triggered a 4.3 percent drop in the euro. This was the biggest weekly decline since October of 2008, when the long-standing aspects involving the Uranus opposition to Makemake and Saturn began. Mars and Saturn will also begin a new 2-year (synodic cycle) a bit later in this lunar cycle, with both cycles inspiring a new dynamic of responsible and administrative creative action.
Massive Jupiter begins its several month opposition to Saturn and its several month conjunction with Uranus in this lunar cycle. Jupiter's prominent arrival into the few-year timeline of aspects involving Saturn, Makemake, Uranus and Pluto, brings a tremendous shift in this timeline. The Jupiter-Uranus synthesis will mobilize, magnify and expand upon the radical changes already occurring in our lives. Jupiter-Saturn oppositions are generally quite potent, especially if they occur within orb to Earth's Precessional Cross, which this one does (and especially with Jupiter conjoining Uranus at the same time). For example, there were three major New Madrid Earthquakes occurring between mid-December 1811 and early-February 1812 estimated to be 7.5 to 7.7 in magnitude, all with several major aftershocks. At the time, Saturn and Jupiter were in opposition, and within a critical orb to Earth's Precessional Cross. Saturn was exactly on the Gate of God (GEN) of the precessional cross on the December 16 quake (with a 7.0 aftershock); and Jupiter was exactly on the Gate of Man of the precessional cross at the time of the second two quakes of January 23 and February 7. This is not to say our current opposition will produce major seismicity, although quite possible. We can however expect a massive and unexpected turn of events that certainly can be of beneficent nature in the long run, even if not appearing so at the onset. Although not on Earth's precessional cross, the previous Jupiter-Saturn opposition in 1989 produced two major events: The Loma Prieta (San Francisco) Earthquake, which occurred on October 17, 1989 during the Saturn-Jupiter opposition. It was triggered by a Mercury-Jupiter-Saturn T-square. The Berlin Wall was opened in November of the same year, triggered by Venus (and Uranus) in primary aspect to the Jupiter-Saturn opposition.
Paying attention to our intuition and acting upon it throughout this lunar cycle would be wise!
The regenerative tone of our New Moon theme, with need to hold our own inner light and follow our intuition, is apropos, as things are about to rock and roll. This lunar month invites us to gather our energy for the impending acceleration and expansion, and to apply it with dynamic creative action in leadership. Jupiter's standoff to Saturn and arrival to join Uranus may catalyze some intense experience. However, Jupiter's arrival is quite welcomed, one that ultimately will yield a very progressive mobilization of long awaited change--especially after we move through the August crisis point, stimulated by the upcoming Jupiter-Pluto-Saturn T-square. From then onward, and into early 2011, we will refreshingly emerge from the current long-standing set of intense planetary aspects that began in late 2008.
These are just a few of many events occurring in this lunar cycle. The Monthly Lunar Planner explores the details of these events and more, based in star-level astronomical astrology and synodic astrology.
About Synodic Cycles
Synodic Cycles are created when two (or more) planets align in their orbits around the Sun. The synodic cycle theme, defined by the planets involved and the star alignments at the time, will unfold until the two planets align again, marking the completion of the synodic cycle and the beginning of the next one.
There are many synodic cycles with unique astrological themes occurring simultaneously, creating a harmonic symphony of creative unfoldment in consciousness. Synodic cycles can be thought of as longer-term underlying currents, much like the backdrop chorus of a symphony, providing the underlying astrological context guiding our evolution.
The New Moon of May 14 (May 13 MST) in late sidereal Aries, at the Taurus cusp, conjoins Sedna, recently discovered in 2003. Sedna's vast distance from the Sun and its very long 10,500-year orbit places Sedna an entirely new class of planets. It brings our awareness beyond the transpersonal and into the depths of what is deeply buried in human consciousness, perhaps regarding our distant past and the evolutionary course of humanity over eons of time.
Sedna was named after an Inuit goddess who lives at the bottom of the frigid Arctic Ocean. Sedna's mythical story is about a beautiful but vain maiden who refuses several potential husbands but is finally coerced to marry by her father. However, she ends up marrying an evil bird disguised as a man and is wisped away to a distant island for a life of misery and quarantine. Her father attempts to rescue Sedna, but on their way back home, in her father's kayak, the birdman attacks. In a vicious struggle and in fear of his life, Sedna's father either inadvertently or deliberately pushes Sedna overboard into the frigid Arctic waters--even hitting her frozen fingers, which break off as she tries to cling to the boat. Sedna eventually drowns in a dramatic scenario of deceit, betrayal and abandonment. Sedna becomes the goddess of the sea, watching over the mammals of the oceans. Sedna has the head and torso of a woman, and the tail of a fish--our mermaiden.
Although the mythology of a new planet, as well as its orbital parameters, date of discovery etc. can give us insight into its astrological nature, it takes time to gain empirical validation of its true nature. This New Moon may bring us additional insight.
Observing transits and aspects of other planets to our natal Sedna's placement is a very good way to explore a new planet's astrological nature. In doing so, there are a few prominent themes I see regarding Sedna so far. One is about not wanting to participate or even be here on Earth due to having been deeply hurt in the past, with issues about having been abandoned, exiled or severely mistreated. Another is in regard to feelings about not having the life we had expected or thought we deserved--this seems like a prominent theme associated with Sedna. On a more evolutionary scale, Sedna may bring insight into the long-standing suppression and exploitation of females in our world, and issues surrounding the re-emergence of the feminine principle into its rightful position. This can extend from the awry suppression of women by males throughout history, to the mistreatment of life itself, such as that done to animals, and regarding our disrespect for the natural world in general. When considering the placement of planets in our charts as parts of self we have opportunity to evolve or spiritualize, we can see Sedna as revealing where we may need to learn sensitivity and compassion for life and for the abused; and to embrace these things as parts of self rather than as something we hold away. Likewise, Sedna's placement may also indicate where we long for something that seems distant, removed or seemingly held away from us. More about Sedna.
Sedna and our New Moon conjoin Botein of Aries; Rana and Zaurak of Eridanus; Segin of Cassiopeia; and Theta Perseus, which mark the Taurus cusp. Also of influence is Algol of Perseus, which lies just across the Taurus cusp, and the Gorgonias (the three small stars near Algol); and Alpha Caelum.
Cuspal Taurus also marks the location of the newly discovered planet 2009 YE7, which lies in Eridanus. 2009 YE7 was discovered by David Rabinowitz on December 17, 2009 at the La Silla Observatory in Chile. 2009 YE7 may become a member of the Dwarf Planets along with Ceres, Pluto, Haumea, Makemake, and Eris due to its brightness, which can indicate a considerable size, but is yet to be confirmed. Mike Brown (David's colleague) also suspects that 2009 YE7 may be a fragment of Haumea because it has the same orbital inclination and orbital plane orientation as Haumea; and because it has an extremely bright reflective icy surface like all of the fragments of Haumea, which is unique compared to the more common darker Kuiper belt objects. More about 2009 YE7.
This part of the heavens lies under the auspices of the story of the Royal Family. This is where princess Andromeda's fate is now out of the hands of King Cepheus and Queen Cassiopeia. Perseus, Andromeda's beloved, is about to slay Medusa in order to claim his self-mastery, a prerequisite to step into his intended soul destiny, while Andromeda is chained to the rocks by the sea, about to be devoured by Cetus, the sea monster (the technobureaucratic monster created by collective human consciousness). Tension and anticipation mounts. Perseus must slay Medusa (his inner fears), lest he will turn to stone (become frozen in fear) before he can aid his beloved Andromeda.
Zaurak of Eridanus, a point of pause along the River of Life, motivates us to trust the inner light we have cultivated through our past initiatory trials (through Aries), despite that the path may not be entirely visible. Here we must regain our strength and follow through into the Earthly physical world of Taurus regardless of any residual fears we may hold. Cuspal Taurus is where Perseus completes his initiatory journey (Aries) and claims his self-mastery, depicted by Algol, the head of slain Medusa held in his hand.
Botein, although meaning the belly (of the Ram) actually marks the hind foot. Botein can indicate those either lost and stranded, or simply left behind (the lost or following sheep), and thus can create a sense of frustration; but this is also a place of an energetic potential about to erupt.
Rana of Eridanus, conjoining Botein, marks another stopping point along the river of life and articulates the theme of those lost or tired through their initiations stopping either in need of aid or for regeneration in preparation for what is yet to come.
Overall, this location in the ecliptic is of a regenerative nature--primal, sexual, erotic, creative and inventive. It can also be volatile, quickly eruptive or explosive like a volcano, penetrating, sharp-tongued, competitive, even somewhat hostile. Thus it requires a need to channel our energy clearly and concisely. Either way, it asks us to trust instinct rather than reason.
Paying attention to our intuition and acting upon it throughout this lunar cycle may be of extreme importance!
For those who have the Planetary Bio-Harmonics Audio Meditations, this entie lunar month is an ideal time to work with the Saturn, Jupiter and Uranus audio meditations. See this Month's Lunar Calendar for exact aspect times; or the "Lunar Cycle Timing Chart" found under the "Resources" menu on the Planetary Bio-Harmonics web page.
Ceres and Quaoar (pronounced kwɑːwɑhr / with two syllables) begin a new 4.7-year synodic cycle on the right leg of Ophiuchus in sidereal Scorpio, just after the New Moon. Due to her size and spherical shape, Ceres was reclassified as a "Dwarf Planet" in August 2006, along with Pluto and Eris--appropriately honoring Ceres to be the mother of the asteroids. Ceres brings awareness to how we nurture and to that which is truly nurturing to us. Ceres embodies mothering and agricultural qualities and brings attention to our relation with the Earth, the land, and the seasons--the ebb and flow of abundance and lack. Potential Ceres issues are: fear of abundance, lack and material struggle; low self esteem; unworthiness expressing as attachment to people and things; possessiveness or need to control siblings or one's creations. More about Ceres.
Quaoar was the name given to the "creation force" by the Native American Tongva tribe who were the original inhabitants of the Los Angeles basin in Southern California. Quaoar was discovered by Mike Brown and Chad Trujillo in a digital image taken on June 4, 2002 from the Palomar Observatory 48-inch Oschin telescope in California. (Names are often taken from the mythology native to the places where they were discovered.) Quaoar is about 1,200 kilometers in diameter--about one-tenth the diameter of Earth, about half the size of Pluto, and larger than the four primary asteroids combined. Quaoar has an orbital period of 288 years, orbiting the sun in a near perfect circle and it has the smallest orbital inclination of the objects discovered so far, lending to its rather harmonious nature.
Acknowledging we are just beginning to apprehend Quaoar's astrological nature, Quaoar seems to have a character supporting a "harmonious revolution"-- to help us release and surrender to the natural order of the creative forces governing life and death. Additionally, Quaoar inspires our return to the "sacredness of life"; to realize all things in life are sacred and that it is our responsibility to have respect for natural order and to live in harmony with nature. More about Quaoar.
Ceres and Quaoar seem to make a good synthesis and bring our attention to nature, natural law and our need to honor and respect nature, our environment, and all life on Earth. The stars at this ecliptical location support masterful, spiritually mature and responsible action regarding the use of natural and primal forces of life--those that govern life and death.

Mars and Makemake (pronounced MAH-keh MAH-keh - "e" is pronounced "ay" in Polynesian), a prominent player in our current 2008-2011 timeline of planetary aspects, begin a new 1.9-year synodic cycle, also on May 14, 2010. This synod occurs on the cusp of sidereal Virgo. It conjoins Cor Caroli and the Super-giant Whirlpool Galaxy M51 of Canes Venatici; Epsilon and Delta Crateris; Benatnasch of Ursa Major; and Zavijava of Virgo. Since I have written about these stars and Makemake's presence at this location in late Leo / cuspal Virgo extensively in the 2008-2011 timeline article, and other Lunar Planners, I will summarize here. Benatnasch is of the old totalitarian world powers of big business / government / religions. Cor Caroli and M51 of the Barking Hounds is of the dramatic smoke screens and cover-ups designed to delude the masses from the real issues at hand. Zavijava is of blind followers who naively follow the false leaders, whether those of government and big business or the false profits and self-proclaimed gurus pretending they know the way to salvation.
Makemake, again new to our awareness and so not yet fully understood astrologically, I purport is playing a key role in bringing the corrupt shenanigans of big-business/government out into the open and supports a healthy competitive pursuit for those who are truly worthy to be in administrative roles, which govern the financial paradigm and which support the needs of the people. More about Makemake. Uranus being in opposition to Makemake and Saturn over these last couple years certainly facilitated this challenge for radical change in our existing governmental / big business / financial paradigm.
Mars is an initiating creative force, of vitality, our life force, and power. Mars stimulates our ability to respond in assertive action. Mars in its mature expression is of leadership, is self reliant, audacious, brave, instinctual, passionate and willful. So Mars and Makemake, in an empowered and mature scenario, would seem to make a good and dynamic synthesis. However there are a couple things we might consider. Many of course do not express a mature Mars (base-chakra) quality, and many of those types are still in influential and significant positions in the world. Also, the star alignments here, of the old totalitarians in governing positions, may stimulate more of an intensification of the manipulations typical of that paradigm. However, with Uranus and now Jupiter moving into opposition to Makemake, and with Saturn in an entirely new cycle compare to when it was conjoining Makemake under the Benatnasch directive, there is now a much greater force building to mobilize change of this old paradigm. So things may intensify even more so on the global stage, which I suspect will climax into a crisis point with the July-August Jupiter-Pluto-Saturn T-square. Yet as we emerge through the latter half of 2010 and into 2011, mobilizing and beneficent Jupiter, which is of higher law and not man's law, along with Uranus, which breaks us from the limiting and antiquated bounds of the past, will dominate this entire scenario. This is all a good thing when we look at in this more embracing context.
The hours before the Crescent Moon provide a time when we relinquish patterns of the past that would limit our creative ability to expand on the lunar theme now unfolding. The Crescent Moon is the time when the sprouting seedling sloughs off its protective coat of the past and emerges in a new expression. As the Crescent Moon unfolds, the growing phase of the lunar cycle begins as we start to amalgamate our personal creativity with the original lunar theme.

The Crescent Moon of May 17 resides in mid-sidereal Gemini and conjoins the foot of Pollux, the ambassador of the Twins, which is formed by Alhena, Gamma Gemini and Alzirr, Xi Gemini. Also conjoining is Mebsuta, Epsilon Gemini, which is a part of Castor, the link and liaison; and also the Cone Nebula / star cluster NGC2264 of Monoceris, the Unicorn. The Moon also conjoins the South Lunar Node, bringing additional emphasis to let go of old patterns in order to do things in a new way.
"The Twins" are marked by the two principal stars: Pollux, the immortal extraterrestrial one, and Castor the mortal terrestrial one, the extraterrestrial incarnate. These two stars reside in the last several degrees of sidereal Gemini. The Twins stand upon the galactic equator at a 60° angle to the ecliptic plane, with the "Feet of the Twins" lying in earlier Gemini, upon the "galactic equatorial node"--the "Gate of Man." Thus, Gemini is a galactic constellation and an ecliptical constellation, one common to our solar plane (ecliptic), and so with sol / soul purpose expressing through the daily activity of humankind--the theme of the Gate of Man. (Our feet are associated with our longer term / sole / sol / soul purpose in action.)
The role of the Gemini Twins is of partnership in mutual cooperation participating in the human world, one of linking and uniting the mission of the soul (galactic plane) into and through our daily affairs in the world. The Twins work hand-in-hand for the betterment and evolutionary fulfillment of humankind. Gemini is of high intensity intellectual communication, information, daily activity, opportunity, commerce, goods and services, and their exchange; and of gaiety in work and play.
Alhena is the brand, mark or seal, and along with Alzirr, marks the foot of Pollux the ambassador. Mebsuta, the knee of Castor conjoins the two as well. Alhena represents "commencement" and inspires us to act upon our greater truth and purpose. Alhena is a marking stone for the unfoldment of what lies ahead and indicates a milestone or a turning point has been reached. It reveals our need to get off of the fence of indecision, to drop any hesitation, as the "time is at hand" to go forth anew. As the brand, Alhena also indicates that the time, events, or relations are marked or may be destined. Alhena can also indicate the need to sign a document or legalize a project, involvement, or commitment. It is the consecration of our commitment through demonstrable action that anchors the etheric vision of our soul truth into the physical plane to become realized truth. This concretization prepares for a greater event yet to come. Alhena can also manifest simply as a unique sign, indicating an opportunity is at hand (Monceros). Alhena, Alzirr and Mebsuta indicate a separation or leaving, a departure, even an exodus. Behaviorally, they mark the time to leave an older or less fulfilling way of participation or way of life, a time of transfiguration.
Our Crescent Moon inspires us to let go (perhaps of Sedna related issues - the reasons buried deep inside that we may use to justify "why not to participate" ) and to step forward into a greater interactive and mutual participation. It may also inspire us to bring forth a new level of self-expression that we may have been holding back. Considering the New Moon stars in late Aries, it may also inspire us to bring forth a new level of energy and our own inner light to create our own path forward rather than looking for a path out side of self to simply manifest.
The First Quarter Moon of each lunar cycle draws an external stimulus to initiate action as we move from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter. Our First Quarter Moon occurs on May 20 in early sidereal Leo. It conjoins the asteroid Vesta and the newly discovered planet Orcus.
Vesta is the asteroid of focus, dedication and commitment; of physical, emotional, and mental clarity, and of self-respect. Vesta brings a capacity to be pure within self at all levels for the expression of our highest potential and true essence. Vesta is of strength, purity, and perfection--of total dedication to purpose. Vesta brings attention to that which is of true importance and will ignite and burn away that which is not so we can become clear. More about Vesta.
Orcus, based upon its orbital parameters, is compliment to Pluto. Orcus invites us to live the "oaths of our souls." Orcus addresses how we are applying our personal will for the greater well being of all humanity; how we are contributing to human society. Orcus' motivates the use of our day-to-day lives, our daily activity for soul's greater purpose on Earth. More about Orcus.
Regulus of Leo is the primary First Quarter Moon star. Also of influence is Adhafera and Al Jabha, which create the crest of the mane of the Lion's head, and which primarily conjoin Vesta. The Moon and Orcus primarily conjoin Regulus; Algeiba; the Seyfert Galaxy NGC3227, which lies next to Algeiba. Also conjoining are Phecda of the Great Bear, and Praecipua of Leo Minor, the Lion cub.
Leo the Lion
The Lion faces west, with its head looking over into sidereal Cancer with Algieba (the mane), Adhafera (on the crest of the mane), Rasalas (the crown), and Algenubi (the eye) all composing the Lion's head. This is a point of eloquence and beauty. These stars embody the wisdom of the Lion. They are of adventurism, breaking new trail, and living true to self; undaunted, with self-confidence and genuine pride. The star Regulus (at 5° Leo) is considered the Heart or Essence of the Lion.
Regulus, Alpha Leo, completes the articulation of the first five degrees of sidereal Leo. Regulus is "Chief or King of the Four Royal Stars" (Regulus Fomalhaut, Aldebaran, and Antares). Throughout antiquity Regulus was associated with royalty and kings (the colors royal blue and gold). Its name is given as "the Regulus" or "the Rex," meaning the "Law Giver." Regulus is considered the governing king of the four royals for several reasons. It lies almost exactly upon the ecliptic, thus, once a year around Aug 22-23, during Earth's orbit around the sun, the sun occults Regulus. Residing at 5° sidereal Leo, Regulus is the only one of the four royal stars prominently aspecting Earth's Precessional Holy Cross (the Gate of God at 5° Sag and the Gate of Man at 5° Gemini), both in longitude and in latitude. The Rex is therefore an administrative seat, a foundational star insuring integrity and order.
On the personal level, Regulus is about our inner "vertical integrity," that is, living true to self; openly on world stage. This means walking in confidence and with self-respect, aligned with the truth in our hearts, in thought, word, and deed. Our personal integrity, our inner vertical attunement, must precede any horizontal, humanitarian participation in the world (Leo's opposite Aquarian pole). Without this inner integrity we become self-sacrificing, entrapped in a sympathetic resonance of dance, giving self away at the cost of our hearts' truth. This perpetuates discord and dysfunction for self and for others because we are simply living a lie. Only by living our hearts' truths do we provide opportunity for others to also stand in integrity and live theirs. Significant alignments with Regulus often indicate those with a prominent role in the global arena or on stage.
Praecipua of Leo Minor, the lessor Lion, which lies just north of Leo, means leader or chief (Latin); and like the stars of early Leo, we have a theme of leadership, nobility, generosity, and of those in prominent positions in the world.
All of these stars are of those who make things happen in the world, of leaders as well as of those behind the scenes-- those who set the stage and make productions occur.
North of the Lion and its cub lies Ursa Major, which actually extends west over sidereal Cancer as well, and east just into the cusp of sidereal Virgo. Its variety of stars fall into the ecliptic throughout these two signs. The Stars of the Great Bear are associated with the global scene and world powers.
Megrez and Phecda of the Great Bear inspire us to look at things from a different, alternative, or askew perspective to see what is otherwise not see--to see that which is behind the scene or creating the appearance. It teaches us discernment, to not be naïve, accepting things from their surface appearance alone. Megrez and Phecda also invite us to look at our selves from an askew perspective to re-examine what drives our persona and the image we project into the world, if it is truly an expression of who we really are, or a mere egoic facade.
Our First Quarter stimulus to action is to take our new expression, a new energetic and renewed level of energy, and to apply it with focus and clarity prominently in the world, with pride, confidence and nobility to serve the greater good for all humanity. The evolving lunar theme is clearly building inspiration to create our lives anew and to create a new world rather than waiting for one to haphazardly manifest on its own; and to do it living true to our souls' purpose on Earth.

Jupiter makes its first opposition to Saturn on May 22-23, 2010. The Jupiter-Saturn opposition will continue through March 28, 2011. During this time Jupiter also opposes Makemake, will conjoin Uranus, and will square Pluto. Jupiter's prominent aspects with these planets initiate a time of dynamic mobilization and expansion. The Moon triggers this first opposition on May 22 by conjoining Saturn.
Jupiter is exactly 2° from its conjunction with Uranus, which will occur on the Balsamic Moon of this lunar cycle. So due to the tight orb of all involved, we experience the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in opposition to Saturn as one event, starting now and continuing through this entire lunar cycle--with Jupiter-Uranus opposite Moon-Saturn now. Saturn is also stationing to complete its retrograde, which occurs just after the Full Moon, adding another dynamic to the potency of this compounded event. The time leading into a Saturn station can feel like time is standing still.
In addition, this all occurs on Earth's Precessional Holy Cross, with Jupiter-Uranus on the vernal point and Saturn on the anti-vernal point. Of course the vernal axis is currently square to the galactic equatorial axis (the Gate of God 5° at sidereal Sag and the Gate of Man at 5° sidereal Gemini). The placement of the Jupiter-Uranus opposition to Saturn on the Holy Cross does two things. It greatly intensifies this conjunction / opposition; and it also creates a primary activation of Earth's Precessional Cross, which basically means it creates a primary stimulus in the current 270° transition that is occurring in Earth's ~25,000-year Precessional Cycle--in this greater transition that is presently occurring in our entire evolutionary cycle on Earth. This should herald a tremendous acceleration and mobilization of radical change on Earth and in our lives. The actual Jupiter-Uranus conjunction on the Balsamic Moon will be even more dynamic, which I will get to later in this Lunar Planner.
Jupiter's several month opposition to Saturn marks the mid-point of vision and realization in the current ~20-year Jupiter-Saturn (synodic) cycle that began on June 22, 2000. The actual (synodic) mid-point occurs in the midst of the opposition, which is not until February 23, 2011. However the theme of this major world cycle is now entering its climax.
The Jupiter-Saturn synod of June 22, 2000 occurred, very curiously, at the same location as this New Moon, in late sidereal Aries (within 0.5°). How's that for cosmic synchronicity? Thus it has a similar theme as this lunar cycle-- creative and inventive; but also volatile, quickly eruptive or explosive. Does this sound like our recent societal mode?
A Saturn-Jupiter synthesis, in general, effects areas of life such as economics, business, politics, law, social issues, education, philosophy and religion. Jupiter wants to expand and mobilize what Saturn has concretized and put into place, and conversely, Saturn wants to structure and conform Jupiter's grander expansive ideals. Jupiter and Saturn cycles play a principle role in our societal cycles of growth.
The 24-hour period just before the Gibbous Moon is a time of perseverance, of pushing through in the midst of the action quarter of the lunar cycle. The Gibbous Moon is when the pressure releases and we enter the Pollinating Phase of the lunar cycle, which begins a social and communicative time of magnetic attraction. This Gibbous Moon occurs on May 24 in late sidereal Virgo. The Moon conjoins Kraz, Beta Corvus; and Seginus and Muphrid of Boötes.
Muphrid, the left foot of Boötes, is the facilitator to the transmutational process involved in the new birth from the Virgin (the principle of pure intent). Muphrid provides personal and intimate support by making possible and ensuring proper energetic environments are created so the spiritual (conceptual) to physical transmutation for the new birth can occur.
Seginus, the left shoulder of Boötes, is of strength and responsibility, and it conjoins Muphrid, the left foot of Boötes. Seginus and Muphrid inspire responsible action to provide personal and intimate support by making possible and ensuring proper energetic environments and physical conditions are created, maintained and not interfered with by meddling forces. Seginus will not hesitate to rebel against manipulative authority; yet this is to ensure an unadulterated and pure birth can occur form the Virgin, that is, so that souls have the opportunity to express their highest potential and can achieve evolutionary fulfillment.
Boötes, the Virgin's consort and protector, is of strength and responsibility. Boötes functions not by outward force but by spiritual awareness and astute intuitive prowess in the application of the knowledge about environmental issues and transcendent subtle forces. Boötes' action is based from a place of receptivity and sensitivity to the situation at hand, action associated with planning, preparation, and strategy. Muphrid and Seginus lie over the lower spinal sacrum (sanctum) of the Virgin and the Virgin's womb--protecting these principles and those of sacred sex, its purity, and the secrets behind gestation, birth, and life itself.
Kraz and the stars of Corvus, the messenger Raven, remind us to pay attention to a heed the natural signs that life itself provides--to listen attentively to the world around us--especially fitting for this lunar cycle.
The Full Moon marks the culmination point in the lunar cycle, the climax, the point of excitement and celebration. The hours leading up to the Full Moon provide a time of "vision and enthusiasm." The time just after Full Moon is a one of "realization of the lunar month's theme," a time to kick back and relax, to allow our realizations to surface in consciousness.
The Full Moon occurs on May 24 in sidereal Scorpio--creating a passionate and intense Full Moon eve. The Moon lies just behind the Head of the Scorpion and between the legs of Ophiuchus, which stands over the Scorpion. It conjoins Beta and Delta Chamaeleon in the southern heavens; Eta Lupus; and Al Niyat of Scorpio, which might be considered the neurological center connecting the heart of the Scorpion (Antares) with the Scorpion's head. The Moon also conjoins the potent Circini X-1 neutron star, the Scorpio X-1 X-ray source, and the Herculis X-1 neutron star.

The power of this band of the zodiak is provided by the three potent X-ray sources, which penetrate matter and experience. The Circini X-1 neutron star, Scorpio X-1, and the Hercules X-1 neutron star provide a three stage initiatory portal in the progression of consciousness as we move from Dschuba, the head of the Scorpion, to Antares, the heart of the Scorpion, which embodies the essence of sidereal Scorpio, and finally to Galactic Centre (across the Sag cusp) where full galactic-reinstatement can occur, the full integration of soul-awareness.
This involves a neurological shift from the theme of Dschuba to that of Antares--from understanding the principle of how we create our life experience and from demonstrating choice to change the patterns of the past (graduating from victim consciousness), to the full embodiment of this principle in our physical neurology.
Circini X-1 is an x-ray binary star system with a powerful and dense neutron star orbiting around a normal (main sequence) star. Chandra (x-ray observatory) observations reveal powerful rotational forces in the Cir X-1 accretion disk (an inward spiraling disc of stellar material surrounding the neutron star) are blasting high-velocity winds back out into space at speeds near 7.2 million km/hr. The intense inward collapse of a neutron star along with its powerful simultaneous x-ray emissions can produce a dynamic and demonstrable attractive/expressive response astrologically. Circini X-1, in the constellation Circini lies upon the galactic equator, at the feet of the Centaur.
Circini X-1's placement reveals that a choice must be made to align with the path of the soul or the path of personality convenience, and that this choice must now be experientially demonstrated. Circini X-1, specifically conjoining Dschuba and Graffias, the head of the Scorpion, and Yed Ophiuchus the hand of death, reveals that the path of personality merely leaves us circling in the repetitive rounds of our past patterns of growth. To choose the path of the soul is to step off of the karmic-based wheel of life and into a Phi spiral of evolutionary progression.
To live the teachings of the Centaur and to walk the path of the soul requires we take full responsibility for our incarnational experience and master the primal forces creating and destroying life. This first initiatory stargate provides opportunity to demonstrate the choice made to walk the higher path of soul, that of self-mastery and self-responsibility--to begin to anchor in this choice at the experiential-cellular level of self.
The transformation occurring at the Circini X-1 initiatory phase can make one seem complacent because motive changes to act for soul purpose rather than personality interest. However the soul-level personal empowerment is not yet full integrated at this level of the initiatory process to do so.
Beta and Delta Chameleon separate Cir X-1 from Sco X-1 and Herc X-1 (in ecliptical longitude). They articulate a metamorphic shift where personality facade melts away and soul self emerges. This is a very personal and experiential area of the zodiak regarding conscious use of our creative power and sexual energy; and our personal transmutation and self-mastery.
Scorpio X-1, the second gate, can stimulate a state of high excitement and emotional drive expressing as unconscious abandon for the less-masterful individual who has not yet matured to a level of self-awareness, and as a healthy passionate sensuality and altered ecstatic awareness for the self-masterful. Scorpio X-1 has a resonance providing conscious access between the waking a dream state--the hypnagogic realm; also what may be consider the tantric and shamanistic realms. Sco X-1 invites us to cultivate this capacity and to function from this expanded perceptual awareness in every day life.
Northern Herculis X-1 invites us to become self-aware and knowledgeable in the application of our primal and carnal nature. Hercules X-1 is an X-ray emitting neutron star, a star that has collapsed to such a magnitude that highly energized particles are forced outward creating a relentless and intense drive, one that also inspires the amalgamation of our creative forces to achieve a greater awareness, rapture, and freedom of being; as well as a desire for knowledge and spiritual prowess regarding the primal, carnal and dreamlike forces of life. This is the resonance between the base chakra and the pineal gland or epiphysis, the epiphany center of the brain.
The stars of the Chamaeleon and Eta Lupus add additional insight. The Chamaeleon, generally speaking, is a symbol of adaptability, change and new beginnings. The Chamaeleon articulates the ability to adjust to any situation, but not through subservience or acquiescence, but in mastery of self and with intuitive sensitivity and individuality. Lupus is lower order self, which the Centaur places upon the altar for its transmutation. One the one hand, for those choosing to embrace the transmutational process offered here, these star articulate the willingness to surrender old self and morph or shape-shift into a new being. On the other, they articulate the squirmish avoidance to hide from such a metamorphic experience. Either way our Full Moon stars bring us realization about the meaning of this lunar cycle's purpose in our lives.
Saturn returns direct from its retrograde on May 30. This marks the full engagement of the new 378-day Earth-Saturn synodic cycle that began on March 22, 2010. This is significant, not only due to the Jupiter-Uranus opposition to Saturn, but also because this new Earth-Saturn cycle theme is dramatically different than the previous cycle, which brought a significant shift in the Earth-Saturn spiral of synodic cycles--all explained in the March 15, 2010 Lunar Planner. Neptune begins its retrograde a day later, on May 31, 2010, just before the Disseminating Moon.
The hours leading up to the Disseminating Moon generally is an accelerated and busy time of last minute preparation that leads into the birth point in the lunar cycle, the time of bearing the fruit of the cycle, of claiming its gift, of living that which we have been learning.
The Disseminating Moon occurs on May 31 on the cusp of sidereal Capricorn. Cuspal sidereal Sagittarius-Capricorn is where we are faced with concretizing our visions and ideals (common to late Sagittarius and overseeing Lyra) into demonstrable and practical form in the physical world. Alpha Pavo, the Peacock, sums up the last degree of sidereal Sagittarius, fully radiant in its multi-colored spectrum of vision and ideals, proudly displays all that it is and brings inspiration to express the beauty that we are and that we truly envision. Here on the cusp, we find soul-level support provided by Eta Mensa (of Table Mountain) to now actualize that eloquence. We are also faced with addressing the inherent aberrations or distortions that occur when applying our ideals into demonstrable physical form, revealed by a Planetary Nebula and Irregular Galaxy of Sagittarius, which reach just over the cusp into sidereal Capricorn. Two pulsars in northern Vulpecula, the elegant, but sly and cunning fox, aid us and warn us when applying the lofty ideals of the Sagittarian Zen archer into physical form.
Early Capricorn can also involve areas of all esoteric sciences, as well as the secret places and orders associated with those artsciences; places of personal retreat, seclusion, hermitages; and places strategic to one's purpose. We also have support to identify and move to such places as well. The first few degrees of Capricorn can also be of magic, hermetism, esoterism, and religion. Early Capricorn is of a personal focus, more about self-accomplishment, personal desires, and the cloaks and facades we wear or present in the world; and it is also militaristic and of domination. This is also where the pure spiritual essence and principles common to sidereal Sagittarius can get converted into monotonous or lost into empty dogmatic doctrine rather than applied in practice--something to be conscious of.
Our demonstrable Moon reveals its time for physical concretization of that which we have been cultivating in this lunar cycle--to put it into applicable and practical form in our lives.
Mars and Saturn initiate a new 2-year synodic cycle on June 1, 2010 stimulating a new dynamic of responsible creative action. This synod occurs in early sidereal Virgo--also with a theme quite different that the previous Mars-Saturn cycle. The previous cycle began in May of 2008 and its synod occurred in mid sidereal Leo. The theme of this cycle, which was set by Alioth of Ursa Major and Thuban of Draco was presented in the May 5, 2008 Lunar Planner.
The theme of this cycle is defined by Theta of Bootes; Beta of Coma Berenices; Zeta Crateris; Zaniah of Virgo and Turais Carina of Argo Navis.
Theta Bootes, along with Iota and Xi for the finger tips of the upraised hand of Bootes warding off the manipulative and diversionary tactics of Benatnasch. Benatnasch, the tail of the Great Bear, mentioned above, is of the old totalitarian world powers. Bootes, the Virgin's consort and protector, stands over the Virgin giving birth, over the cusp of Virgo-Libra. He ensures that the Virgin is protected and removed from such manipulations, and has the proper environment to produce an unadulterated birth--to ensure souls are free to birth, evolve and grow in their highest potential. More about this can be found in the "Astronomical Truth of the Virgin."
Coma Berenices (Berenices' hair) is the halo or crown of the Virgin and embodies our spiritual essence and soul guidance. The North Galactic Pole (NGP) resides in Coma (5° sidereal Virgo), as does our Super Galactic Center (SGC) (~7° sidereal Virgo). The Mars Saturn synod occurs about 2° past the longitude of Super Galactic Center. This few degree location in sidereal Virgo might be considered as the high spiritual essence of the Virgin; It is of light, illumination, of spiritual integrity and of soul / source guidance and awareness. Beta Coma invites us to follow and live by our more embracing soul awareness and spiritual guidance.
Zaniah, Eta Virgo, is an ecliptical star, less than 2° north in ecliptical latitude. Zaniah inspires the "right use of will" directed by soul-level impulses and unadulterated by personality or egoic-level influences. Zaniah is also the Chinese "Left-hand Maintainer of Law" (Allen). Zaniah is of Virgin purity--being a clear vessel to know right action--also a feminine quality.
Nearby Eta Carina in Argo Navis
One of the Universe's most impressive stars, Eta Carinae, is one of the most massive stars in our Milky Way, over 100 times the mass of the Sun and about four million times brighter, making it the most luminous star known. Eta Carinae is highly unstable, and prone to violent outbursts, most notably the false supernova event in 1842. For just a few years, Eta Carinae became the second brightest star in the night sky and produced almost as much visible light as a supernova explosion (the usual death throes of a massive star), but it survived. Eta Carinae is also thought to have a hot companion that orbits around it in 5.54 years, in an elliptical orbit. Both stars have strong winds, which collide, leading to interesting phenomena.

Eta Carina is Lord of the Waves (the Akkadian Ea (Ia), the Sumerian Enki, chief god of the city Eridhu--he who warned Noah), generally is considered the foreteller of impending catastrophe, but also the instructor of the way through such evolutionary transitions.
In the southern heavens lies Turais Carina and Phi Velorum, both of Argo Navis, which lies along the galactic equator, and thus is more associated with our longer-term soul-level sojourn and our evolutionary course.
Turais (Aspidiske) of the Argo is a rather rare white supergiant star that shines with a luminosity of 4900 of our suns, with a radius estimated to be about 43 times that of our sun. "This Arabian name has led to some confusion regarding the nature of this star, even confused to be part of Puppis the stern of the Argo, but it lies along the gunwale in Carina, the hull of the Argo, under Velorum the sail." (Allen)
Phi Velorum and the adjoining Pulsar P 0950 reside exactly on the Galactic Equator in the Sail (Velorum) of the Argo. Pulsars in general are beacons for the soul, and in this case, inspiring our attunement to the evolutionary currents beyond our incarnational moment, those of the greater evolutionary process itself. P-0950 has a pulse rate of 1.436551 seconds, which is a frequency of 0.696111729 Hz. Raised a few octaves, this translates to an Alpha brain wave frequency of 11.1377...Hz; and this translates both to infrared and violet wavelengths in the light spectrum. Thus, this pulsar links energy currents occurring in the spiritual realm (crown chakra) with the very root / earth primordial response (Earth Chakra--about a foot below our feet). This pulsar reminds us that to receive our spiritual guidance we must be grounded--like any good antenna.
Galactic Turais and Phi Velorum puts ecliptical Zaniah's "right use of will" into a greater evolutionary context, one with cosmic ramifications that extend throughout spacetime. Our acts of will are not isolated, cut off and limited to the moment itself, but extend into the past-future time-stream of the soul influencing the continuous cosmic currents in soul's greater evolutionary journey in ways that are unseen in the action moment.
Turais asks us to extend our awareness into this time-stream, while Zaniah inspires clear action in the moment from soul's and nature's guiding influence. Thus each action moment is one punctual droplet of many composing a continuous time-stream that formulates the path or wave upon which soul travels. Turais invites us to recognize our actions extend into and influence not only the nature of our own lives, but also the lives of others, effecting the meandering currents in an ocean of being. They set up resonances in spacetime that define the nature of experiences yet to come for our selves and in the evolutionary journey of all involved.
This is not to be confused with attempting to be responsible for others or to define their experience--which is a miss-use of will. The responsibility is for our active and conscious participation from the clarity of our spiritual soul-level guidance expressed in action. Turais demands we act from the awareness of our greater evolutionary journey and adds a sense of "cosmic responsibility" for what is "put into motion" through Zaniah's "right use of will."
In contrast to the last Mars-Saturn cycle, which was more about learning responsibility about forceful action and manipulation of evolutionary affairs in the past (certainly coming out in the wash now), this cycle is more about the right use of will to establish a durative environment supportive of the evolutionary fulfillment of souls, protected from the manipulations of the totalitarian puppet masters (government and big business).
All occurring in sidereal Scorpio: Earth and Pholus begin a new synodic cycle on June 3-4, 2010, just before Last Quarter Moon. Earth and Ixion begin a new cycle on June 6, just after Last Quarter Moon. Earth and Quaoar begin a new synodic cycle on June 11, just before the New Moon. Each of these cycles are about 1-year long because these three move slightly by the time Earth makes its yearly round. Since they are slow movers, their themes shift and change only slightly over time. The three have been in sidereal Scorpio (Ophiuchus) for some time now.
Ixion currently moves 1° 16'/year in ecliptical longitude. Quaoar currently moves 1° 20'/year in ecliptical longitude. The Centaur Pholus moves a bit faster, currently 2° 29'/year. Pholus is catching up to conjoin Ixion and a Pholus-Ixion synod will occur in mid-2012. From Earth's view, Pholus and Ixion will begin a long-standing conjunction starting January 2012, but they are currently within a 2° degree orb of each other. This can be seen in the Annual Graphic Ephemeris. The Pholus-Ixion synthesis may be a very good thing regarding a mysterious transmutation of those of a tyrannical nature. More about Pholus. More about Ixion.
This may be hard to visualize without viewing an animation of this chart, but worth to note: Pholus, Ixion and Quaoar continue to weave a very interesting dance for the next few decades, moving from Ophiuchus into Sagittarius. Pholus and Quaoar will conjoin and make a synod exactly where their orbits cross in ~2026; and then Pholus starts to slow (in ecliptical longitude) and Quaoar takes the lead again. It is almost like they deliberately do this speed change just to exchange energy. In addition, Ixion speeds up as Pholus slows such that they make another synod in 2035. Thus it is a double-synod--a rare and unique occurrence. Ixion and Quaoar will make another synod in 2037 producing their double-synod, with their first having occurred in 1983, in the midst of the claws of the Scorpion (scales of Libra). During this entire time, the three remain within a 5° orb. These speed changes are in ecliptical longitude / time, not absolute, and are due mostly to their various orbital inclinations and eccentric orbits. The point of all this is that the synthesis of this threesome lasts for decades--establishing a very long-term energetic for humanity. What it all means could involve a lengthy exploration and a book in and of itself. I did touch somewhat on this in an older 2007 article: The Synodic Cycles of Pluto, Ixion & Quaoar.
The Last Quarter Moon creates our "inner need to initiate change" in the lunar cycle as we move into the cycle's last and transitional quarter. Chiron begins its retrograde on June 4, just hours before Last Quarter Moon. Our Last Quarter Moon occurs on June 4 in sidereal Aquarius. The Moon resides in the stream of the Aquarian Waterbearer's Urn and conjoins Achernar of Eridanus; Ankaa of the Phoenix; and Delta Sculptor. This is also the exalted location for Neptune.
Achernar of Eridanus and Ankaa, Alpha Phoenix. Also influencing are Hydor of Aquarius, Alpha Hydrus, Delta Sculptor, Homan on Pegasus and Beta Horlogium. This is also the exalted zodiacal location for Neptune.
This few degree band of the ecliptic dissolves differences in to universality; and perhaps any potential events occurring in this lunar cycle (catalyzed by the Jupiter-Uranus opposition to Saturn) may help to serve this purpose. A good way to visualize this area of the zodiak is where a long winding river gushes into the ocean; or where a raging waterfall drops into a pool below. It has a mutable character, is eloquent, adventurous and independent.
Achernar marks the end of Eridanus, the river of life. Achernar is of fulfillment, completion, integration, and rewards from what has been gained from the long and winding journey in life (such as in the completion of a project, a leg of a journey, of life itself). Achernar is also supportive of engaging upon a yet a greater work beyond was already undertaken. Having paid our dues, it may support movement into a new level or greater flow of an existing venture.
Ankaa, Alpha Phoenix, is the lucida of the Thunderbird. Ankaa embodies the essence conveyed in the symbol of the phoenix rising from the ashes of the trials of the long and winding road in full illuminated glory. In another mythical imaging, Ankaa is the talisman upon the staff of the high priest-scientist Aaron, brother of Miriam and Moses. The Ankh / Ankaa is emblematic of the fulfillment of a journey, a mission begun long ago. It is Aaron’s amulet of power--having claimed the wisdom and fulfillment from the journey. Ankaa is also the emblem of Universal (Uranian) Love.
This is a point of vision for the future. There is a sense of impending time yet also optimism for nourishment and fulfillment. It provides inspiration to rise from the ashes of the past and to get on with it, to move forward, to cultivate the lives that lead to our fulfillment. It supports moving into a greater flow or involvement.
The Time of Global Change is at Hand.
What is the end of the World for some is a New World for those who realize it is.
The time we've been waiting for occurs from Last Quarter Moon through the Balsamic Moon. The door opens where we are now swept into vast movement and expansion of radical and perhaps more unexpected change--continuing through the many months ahead. The Moon conjoins Jupiter and Uranus just after Last Quarter Moon, during the time of "initiating change" in the lunar cycle (on June 5-6). The Last Quarter Moon acts as a primary lunar trigger for the Jupiter Uranus conjunction. The Moon briefly conjoins Eris on June 7-8, the great disruptor; and the actual Jupiter Uranus conjunction occurs on June 8, just hours before the Balsamic Moon.
This first Jupiter-Uranus conjunction occurs on the Vernal Point of Earth's Precessional Holy Cross and also creates a Grand Square with Saturn, Ceres and Juno. Saturn of course lies opposite of Jupiter-Uranus. Ceres resides on the "Gate of God" at 5° Sagittarius and Juno resides on the "Gate of Man" at 5° sidereal Gemini. Mars, Orcus, Neptune and Chiron also aspect the Grand Square. Mars and Orcus conjoin Regulus at 5° sidereal Leo opposite Neptune and Chiron in early Aquarius--all creating one powerful portal and geophysical resonance. The entire geometry is trigger by the Moon in early Aries, which also creates a YOD with Neptune-Chiron to Saturn. This is a primary activation of the Earth's Precessional Holy Cross 270° portal of evolutionary change.
Jupiter and Uranus make their first conjunction in the midst of the fourth and fifth triggers of the Saturn-Uranus opposition--within in a very tight and potent window shown in the graphic ephemeris below. Jupiter and Uranus make their second conjunctive trigger on September 19, just after Jupiter makes its primary square with Pluto and forms the upcoming and also very potent Jupiter-Pluto-Saturn T-square of August. Jupiter continues to oppose Makemake and Saturn and makes is final trigger with Uranus on January 4, 2011, exactly opposite Makemake. Jupiter finishes the entire timeline, making its final square to Pluto and then its final opposition to Saturn in late March of 2011.
This first conjunction on the Vernal Point of the Holy Cross, conjoining Scheat of Pegaus, is about water and the use of our life force. It motivates our re-integration of the spiritual with the primordial. Either humanity learns to participate with one another and with Earth as one living organism or we pay the price of perpetuating severe discord.
During this several month Jupiter-Uranus conjunction, the Jupiter-Uranus synod occurs. This takes place during the September 2010 "Synodic Synchronization"--the Sun-Earth-Jupiter-Uranus alignment. This event initiates a new ~13.8-year Jupiter-Uranus synodic cycle. The theme of this new cycle will be defined by the stars of early sidereal Pisces (3° 31'), including Scheat of Pegasus and those of Lacerta. The synod occurs very near where this first conjunction occurs, conjoining the Vernal Point of Earth Precessional Cross. We will explore this new theme more when the time comes.
The entire several-month Jupiter-Uranus conjunction marks the transition from the previous 13.8-year cycle into the following one. The previous Jupiter-Uranus cycle began on March 28, 1997 in sidereal Capricorn (10° 24').
Uranus and its Rings
M. Showalter (SETI Institute)
The theme of the previous 31.8-year Jupiter-Uranus cycle was defined by Algedi (Alpha) and Dabih (Beta) of Capricorn; Theta Indus; Theta Aquila; Alpha Microscopium; and Gamma Sagitta.
It is worth exploring the theme of these stars and this previous synodic cycle to provide context for the nature of our recent past and the transition currently at hand.
Keep in mind that when a synodic cycle begins, the two planets are conjoined, thus creating a synthesis of their qualities, which nest in and infuse the stellar energies at the time. That synthesis then unfolds throughout the synodic cycle, making its first square, its opposition, its last square, and then the next synod. For a Jupiter-Uranus synod, Jupiter is a mobilizing and expanding force and will magnify, expand and mobilize the qualities of Uranus. Uranus breaks us from the conformity of the past and inspires us to function from a higher octave of being. Uranus is radical, unconventional, non-conforming, brings the unexpected, is spontaneous, of higher mind, illuminating, inventive with a lightning-like charge. Uranus stimulates a future focus and supports our uniqueness of being.
The first decan of sidereal Capricorn can involve a diversely-intented group of individuals and levels of consciousness, those either covert, manipulative and driven from self-interest (as the character of the old business & military paradigms), and those spiritually aware, of integrity, and who are attuned to the land and environment, including shamans and keepers of sacred knowledge and sacred ways. Here we find native indigenous peoples, often ornately dressed or adorned. This is the world of the shamanistic, the ceremonial, fanaticism, obsession, and passion. Although seemingly driven from personal motive, it is often of those with global vision and interest. Either way, surface appearances, cloaks and facades often shroud who is who in an aura of mystery.
This several degree area of the zodiak is of personal motive and secrecy, of esoteric knowledge, religion, higher education, and science; as well as the secret places and orders associated with such, or merely places of personal retreat and seclusion--but places strategic to one's purpose. Here we find locations such as military-scientific-extraterrestrial bases, hermitages, exclusive retreats, or isolated places with a spiritual focus--sacred sites or places of power under the care of their mysterious stewards. We also find an arsenal of strategic tools (technological or magikal), to either aid or control humanity as well as the skill to use them; and this includes our personal arsenals of strategic tools--how we use what we have is up to us.
This is also where an eloquent and artful play of seduction and consent co-exists; but also one that can be insidiously cunning or even voraciously violent. Hear lies the nature of the tools of business and war: the interplay of people in their sexy disguises, whether cloaked in the eloquent and sleek stealth jet, particle beam laser based satellites; or merely dressed in seductive leather and lace. Microscopic discernment is required to see through the alluring facades inherent in this world of mystery, esoteric knowledge, personal motive, and covert maneuvers, to identify what is truly nurturing verses what just tantalizingly appears to be so.
Algedi and Dabih of Capricorn form the head of the goat. Algedi is of covert and secret places: caves, spiritual or exclusive retreats and sanctuaries--isolated places with a spiritual focus--sacred sites or our places of power. Algedi is also of places of unique purpose: scientific or medical centers, even military / extraterrestrial bases or outposts. Although such places may seem to be isolated, lying helter-skelter upon the Earth, they are strategically and naturally distributed upon Earth’s energy grid. That which occurs at these locations is of significance in the greater evolutionary process for all souls and for the Earth herself because the energy at these points radiates throughout the Earth's energy matrix. Algedi can also be of covert operations, manipulative maneuvers, and all that is secret or hidden behind the scenes. Algedi specifically brings attention to the importance of our personal locations (bases/domiciles)--the resonance of which influences greatly the nature of our experience and the fulfillment of our pursuits.
Indus lies south of early Capricorn, just below Microscopium. Indus, classically the desert Persian, is the native indigenous person, much like the Native American, the Aboriginal, the Desert Arab, or the Mountain Shaman--sometimes ornately dressed or adorned, and sometimes totally inconspicuous and unassuming. Indus articulates the steward of a special place, a keeper of sacred knowledge and sacred ways. This is the world of the shamanistic, the ceremonial, and passionate. It can even be of fanaticism and obsession. Although seemingly driven from personal motive, it is often of those with a broad global vision and special interest. Either way, surface appearances, cloaks and facades often shroud who is who in an aura of mystery. Indus has a deep respect for the land, for life, and is sensitive to a place's power and purpose.
Aquila, the northern Eagle, perched high above the Earth, is of removed stillness and astute observation; is of equilibrium and poise, with global vision and local purpose. As Eagle sits high upon its perch, with eyes capable of focusing on the most minute detail (conjoining Microscopium), it assesses, examines, and awaits its opportunity. Removed and alone, Eagle embodies the willingness to examine our deepest emotions and hidden but true feelings; to pin-point our objectives from objective balance, and to then dive into the world with surety and boldness.
Altair, eye of the eagle, and Alshain, Beta Aquila, are of global and extraterrestrial vision; of strategic locations to achieve our purpose, also of military sites as well as Earth's sacred sites. Altair inspires us to perceive from a global, even extraterrestrial perspective; and not merely from a local, isolated view, but with a focus of precision detail. In classical astrology, Altair is of assertive authoritarian militaristic leadership, of military force and power. Friend and siderealist Andrés Takra adds: "Altair has been associated with kings, emperors, conquerors, tyrants, politicians, but also with mystics, occultists, and wise spiritual hierophants of mystery-religions…."
Alpha Microscopium articulates the tendency, capacity, and need for magnification and examination of detail, which is required to see where to apply our knowledge and tools through the diverse facades common to the human world.
Gamma Sagitta, conjoining Alpha Microscopium is the "tip of the missile of Zeus." Sagitta, the missile of Zeus, extends over the first decan of sidereal Capricorn, with its tip, Gamma Sagitta, of significance here. Sagitta embodies our strategic arsenal of tools--whether applied for war or peace--this includes our personal tools to accomplish our goals in the material world. The tip of missile inspires direct application of those tools. Along with Alpha Microscopium we can see how this is fitting to the modern tools of war, such as laser-based satellites and missiles with pin-point accuracy.
From this alone we can certainly see the emphasis of radical development of secretive and advanced technology applied for war--unfortunately; but this theme has also been supportive of many other technological advancements that aid humanity.
Let us also keep in mind that this Jupiter-Uranus theme, now coming to its completion, coincides with the 180° midpoint of the Saturn-Uranus cycle; and these transitions also coincide with the first square (90°) of the current Jupiter-Pluto cycle and the second square (270°) of the current Saturn-Pluto cycle--both of which fuse in the August 2010 T-square--all creating a dynamic several months ahead. More about all of this is presented in the 2008-2011 timeline article.
The Balsamic Moon marks the time in lunar cycle when we coalesce the experience of the lunar cycle into its seed essence, which will then sprout through the theme of the following lunar cycle. It is when we turn our attention from this lunar cycle in anticipation of the next to come. The hours before the Balsamic Moon provide our time of coalescence while those after mark the time when we turn 180° from looking back over the past cycle and look forward toward the next cycle to come.
Center of the Active Spiraling Galaxy NGC 1097 in Fornax--the fiery furnace in sidereal Aries, where matter is consumed and transformation takes place.
Image: European Southern Observatory
(NACO/VLT) (Oct 17, 2005)
The Balsamic Moon of June 8 occurs in early sidereal Aries. It creates a Grand Trine with Mars-Orcus-Vesta (conjoind Regulus of Leo) and Ceres-Pluto (in early Sag); providing an exit from this lunar cycle, one easy to slip through after such intensity. The Moon conjoins Tyl of Draco; the Fornax A Spiral Galaxy; Mesartim, the mouth of the Ram; and Sharatan, Beta Aries.
Tyl of Draco lies in the far northern Heavens. Tyl is one of many stars composing Draco the Dragon which lies coiled around and guarding the North Celestial Pole. Tyl (along with Nodus Secundus--Delta Draco) makes the convolution in the Dragon’s neck, here concerning primordial transformation of the soul through the experience of human life. Tyl is the human cry at a very fundamental level. Tyl is the cry of desire for one's physical needs to be met, for one's truth to be heard, and for one's dreams to be realized. Tyl is the burning cry in the initiatory fires of life.
Tyl asks us hear the human cry; to not deny, squelch or pretend all is well in either denial or uppity arrogance. Tyl asks us to be real, to honor the pain we feel, to honor our humanness, and to have compassion for the struggle of others. Only unconditional acceptance of all emotion--especially pain--not the suppression of it, opens the transmutative process within to allow the searing, burning, digestive juices of Cetus to truly transform our lives and to set us free.
Sharatan, Mesartim and Hamal of Aries form the head of the ram. Sharatan and Mesartim, the mouth of the ram, are portents of an applied force to change. They support new beginnings, adventure, transmutation and great rewards; but they are of opportunities that may quickly open and close, and thus require our immediate response to grasp them without hesitation when they occur. Sharatan provides a sign that it is a time to take action or to create change.
Thus, the seed coalesces for this lunar cycle, which will sprout anew in the following cycle. Our next New Moon occurs on Jun 12, 2010 in late sidereal Taurus, conjoining Capella of Auriga and Bellatrix of Orion. More to come then.
